1. Igor Biscan loves a good wacky ten.
2. Carra's a bit flatulent.
3. The national media is biased against us. Trust us on this. They want Chelsea to buy your best players, Manchester United to win everything and Arsenal to play great stuff.
4. Don't, under any circumstances, buy The Sun. Ask someone at the club, they'll enlighten you.
5. Henchoz isn't anywhere near as tired as he looks.
6. Don't go to the Barracuda on a Friday or Saturday night. It's last. Don't let a returning Pegguy Arphexad convince you that this is a good idea.
7. The tapas bar down by Queen's Square isn't up to much either. The boquerones en vinagre are just not like madre used to make. Unlucky.
8. Though the newly opened Fly and The Loaf on Hardman Street is brilliant. We couldn't recommend it highly enough. We'll meet you in there for a cool Mahou at some point. Salud!
9. Daytime Radio 1 is last. We don't know if you like your pop music, but steer clear if you do. That said, it may be last, but it's still a long way better than City FM.
10. On the subject, the Radio City 'Interactive' Phone-In is to be ignored. Come to think about it, just get a CD player in your car.
11. Watch out for St. John calling you "The Spaniard". It's all downhill from there.
12. School George Sephton in the exact pronunciation of your name. This may be more time consuming than you might expect.
13. Though when he asks, do help to save the Picket.
14. Sofas and lampshades are freely available. Just ask Rick.
15. As funny as Dioufy is, he's nowhere near as good as we all thought he was in the World Cup. Even you.
16. If Didi Hamann offers you a nap, it's not a siesta.
17. Similarly, if he offers you a Wobbly Bob. It's not a drunken Roberto Carlos.
18. Don't worry about John Riise's elbow. He's alright once he runs it off.
19. Big Chris, though, is a bit tender. Look after him. You could start by telling Joe Corrigan to get him off that Atkins' Diet he's so fond of.
20. Thais and building magnates… Don't ask.
21. Guillem Balague is good red and a cool lad. Give him all your Spanish interviews.
22. Feel free to raid Valencia for their best players. Though we would like to keep LFC a mullet-free zone.
23. Carra is a genius. Never drop him and make him vice-captain.

I read that the new manager was being introduced to his squad of players and the back-room staff at Melwood. The players were returning after their summer break for the start of their pre-season preparations, although the Reds' Euro 2004 stars, including Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Milan Baros, have been given extra time to recuperate.

One of Benitez's top priorities at the Liverpool helm will be to assemble his coaching staff. He will need to find a replacement for first team coach Sammy Lee, who has left the club to take up a post with the English FA. Benitez is expected to recruit assistance from Spain, but it is thought he will be keen to retain a British flavour to his team. Former Kop. While favourite Ian Rush, who is currently working at Melwood on a part-time basis coaching the strikers, is expected to be in line for promotion.

Another new face arriving at Melwood today is new signing Djibril Cisse, who along with his team- mates was undergoing a series of physical assessments ahead of pre-season training. He believes the new manager can lead the Reds to the Premiership title in his first season. The French striker thinks that we can win the title next season. The new boss has the experience and he has won two Spanish titles in three years.

I think we need time but perhaps we have a surprise for the supporters. We have to work hard and have the good mentality that there has always been at Liverpool. Then who knows what we can achieve? We should do everything we can to build a competitive team that is determined to win every competition we enter. Obviously the Premiership and the Champions League are the priorities but how we compete in those depends on many things. The most important thing for us right now is to make sure we have the mentality to win.

Former Liverpool player and current strikers coach Ian Rush is set to be handed a full time coaching job under the new regime according to reports in the local papers. Benitez has a mainly Spanish backroom staff but he hopes to maintain a Liverpool connection by promoting Rush from a part-time strikers coach to a member of his full-time team. Ian Rush has earned the same UEFA coaching qualifications as Gerard Houllier and is highly rated as a coach by the Welsh Football Association for his work with the Wales under 17's.

Portsmouth are in talks with Liverpool midfielder Salif Diao. Rafa Benitez and his board agreed to sell the Senegal international last week after receiving an approach from Espanyol. Diao, 27, is likely to be offered a season-long loan deal by Pompey

I have my own ideas but they are similar to what the supporters want. Everyone wants us to play fast and with a good mentality, to be aggressive but positive. The people and the players want this style of play. We need only time. I've seen the fans are very happy and we want to give them plenty to be happy about in the future.

I think it was inevitable that Liverpool would bring in a new manager, but I'm pleased that the board and Rick Parry had the conviction to tell Houllier that he had taken the club as far as he could and terminate his contract. Houllier built the team up but still failed to challenge Arsenal and Chelsea. Fourth-best just isn't good enough.  Rick Parry says that the new manager has confidence in the man. He has his heart set on reviving the club's fortunes, but we'll have to see whether he can get more out of the squad than Houllier could.

I'm pleased that Steven Gerrard has decided to stay and give Benitez time before deciding to move on. I also don't think we've seen the best of the two new players yet - Harry Kewell and Steve Finnan. I prefer to see Kewell out on the left personally.

Benitez will bring in some new players I'm sure. I think we lacked confidence last season. Apart from Gerrard we didn't have anyone who could take the game by the scruff of the neck, and that is what we need if we want to be challenging for the title.

As for Djibril Cisse - I've not seen enough of him to comment as yet, so I'd prefer to pass judgement on him until he arrives.

Image " I do think we can win the title next season. The new boss has the experience and he has won two Spanish titles in three year. Liverpool finished fourth last season and I know they have not won the title since 1990 but a new coach brings new ideas. I only know Rafa Benitez by reputation but I realise he's a great coach. Valencia's results in the last few seasons speak hugely of his success. I hope we'll work well together and I'm sure we will. People speak less highly of Liverpool than they do of Arsenal but that is because they are the champions. Liverpool has fallen behind and I think it's because none of the players put a big enough mark on last season. People don't think of Liverpool like they do Arsenal and Manchester United any more and maybe it's up to me to put that right. We are building a team here and that is what attracted me to Anfield. The moment I am most looking forward is my first game in the red shirt. Two years ago I played at Anfield with Auxerre in the UEFA Cup. The crowd knew I was negotiating with Liverpool and gave me a fabulous welcome. I still get goose-bumps when I think about it and I can't wait to go back there with the fans singing my name. "

Image " He's the right man for Liverpool. Tactically he is brilliant and I can tell you he has a very good reputation in Spain. I spoke to a lot of Spanish players last season and they all say he was the best coach in La Liga. He won the league twice in the last three seasons so that tells you everything. I think we need something new at Liverpool and he will bring new ideas. I think it would be great if we could play the same way as Valencia. They are very strong throughout but they take their time going forward. They may pass the ball around ten times at the back but then they will hit you very quickly. They're great to watch. I want to play for Liverpool and I'm hoping the manager sees a role for me here. We had a meeting on Monday when the manager presented his new backroom staff to us. He told us it was a new start for everyone. He said we must all work hard, train well and have a good team spirit. So far I have been very impressed with him. His appointment is definitely the best decision the club could have made. I just hope I have a part to play in his plans. "

" I don't want to leave and I don't intend going anywhere unless the manager tells me he doesn't have a role for me. I have seen all the rumors about me supposedly going to Portsmouth, St Etienne and Espanyol but I've heard nothing from any of those clubs. I want to show him I deserve to stay here. I want to play for Liverpool and I'm not interested in moving anywhere else. The manager has brought new ideas with him and pre-season has been tough so far. It's very exciting to be working with a manager who has the track record he has. What he did at Valencia was massive and hopefully he can bring that kind of success here. There is definitely a buzz around the place. It's still very early days but so far I'm really enjoying it. I said before that I wasn't happy with my form towards the end of last season. I always want to do better. "

Further to quotes attributed to Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric, which stated his desire to take Salif Diao to Fratton Park on a season-long loan deal, I would like to make it clear that my client is happy at Anfield and is fully focused on claiming a place in the Liverpool first team this season under new coach Rafael Benitez. While injury curtailed his progress under former coach Gerard Houllier, Salif is now fully fit, refreshed and looking forward to impressing not only the new managerial regime at the club, but the Liverpool supporters who he feels are yet to witness his true capabilities. While he is flattered by Portsmouth's interest, this latest development has not in any way changed his outlook on the season ahead.
