Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Sun May 13, 2007 8:45 am

We are in the CL final for the 7th time in 10 days time, there is a lot of doom and gloom going around at the moment its ruining the occasion and the mood.

I feel for the die hards without tickets I really do but keep the faith guys you will get in nothing will stop you nothing has before.
Dont let it spoil your journey to Athens the club has
fucked up but they wont do this again after this uproar.
You have paid far to much money out on flights, hotel, spends dont let this spoil it.

Let get some excitment back remember how we all felt?
Tell your stories about that night in question, whether in Istanbul or any other place in the world.

I couldnt go to Istanbul but I was there in heart watching it in town felt like I was there, go to town about 6 it was chocker, there must have been 70 thousand people.

The pubs where not letting any more people in got in the pub at the front more and more people came in eventually got pushed to the back had to stand on stools and tables to get a view of the big screen.

Was with some woman who was an evertonain before she met her new fella who is a season ticket holder on the kop, she came out in a red top and white jacket but started telling all these girls around us she was really an evertonain.
I thought piss off I am not listening to your
shite, then as I was fuming at her the worst possible scenario happened Maldini scored in less than a minute.

Everyone in the pubs hearts sank, Ohhhh Nooooo then the next 30 minutes seemed a blank, then Crespo scored everyone was going absolutly mental, you could hear the whole of town screaming, then the worst thing ever Crespo got his second if Djimi Traore and Dudek would have been in Liverpool at the time they would have been hung up drawn and quartered what they didnt get called.

Half time I said to me mum lets go somewhere else that evertonain we where with was bringing us bad luck cause we knew deep down inside she was loving every minute of it, I nearly went to kill her but wouldnt give her the satisfaction.

We walked out there was this little Irish kid about 13 absolutly sobbing I got hold of him hugged him saying we are gona win lad, he was heart broken he was saying no we are not its over, I had tears in my eyes because he was inconsolable.

I said lad we are Liverpool we are going to win his dad said he will be ok, so on we walked to find another pub, they where all locked not letting any more in walking through the street Evertonains  came out in force Laughing singing jeering.

What was the best atmosphere in town ever faded within 45 minutes silence fell, we walked and walked through streets looking for another pub no chance, we had no ale either which made it worst.

Then an almighty roar came Gerrard had scored we legged it around the corner the pub where the City Pets used to be had screens outside.
There was hundreds there, game fuckin on,
me and me mum where the only scousers there :D

The rest where from France, Poland, Germany etc, well Ciggy was in full voice I give the bouncers some money asked for some vodka for outside brought us 8 Smirnoff ice, the next thing Smicer scored unbelievable town was alive again I was hoarse by now some of these people watching wernt even Liverpool fans but they where now :D

Screaming, singing, shouting, jumping I had two black eyes then Gerrard got his penalty
we where screaming at the ref send that
fuckin Gattuso off you fuckin b@stard.

Then Alonso nervous as fuck biting his lip had to take the pen and looked like he was going to miss it oh noooooo heads in hands heart rate in cardiac arrest state, svaed in on the rebound YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
SSSSSSSS

The screams where unmerciful just jumped up and down for about ten minutes, singing and dancing with strangers Id never met in my life and will probaly never meet again.

Nerves gone, sweating, extra time still never gave up hope our name was on this one what a nervous 30 minutes that seemed to pass by in ten minutes Dudek two amazing saves from Schevchenko I kissed these two Poles who where probaly in Liverpool looking for work must have thought she is off her rocker they where looking at me like I had lost the plot which I had by then but I couldnt have cared less.
A Pole Weve got a Pole in our goal, A Pole weve got a Pole in our Goal.

Cisse puts the ball down for his penalty then the french got a kiss, they where laughing their heads off couldnt understand a word I was saying :D

As Riise put the ball down I said he is going to miss this people where saying no he wont I said he will he is going to miss.
Up steps Schevchenco the worlds hottest property at the time a striker that all defences in Europe feared, Dudek saves the lads legged it we legged it running around the street strangers never met celebrated like we where best mates, screaming dancing singing, ran around to the fountains got absolutly soaked partied all night horns beeping from every car the wildest celebrations ever to be seen in Liverpool city centre.

Amazing just amazing best night of my life dont think anything could ever live up to that ever again from feeling suicidal at half time, tears of hurt turned to tears of happiness has to be the most turblulent time for every red that watched that game even a few nuterals must have felt something.

That game went down in history as the most exciting unpredictable you could ever expect you may never experience a night like it ever again.

Lets get the momentum back guys the build up everyone wishes they where in our position going into our 7th Cl final not many get that lucky.
And no other club in England has been where we are just remember that they can only envy us.

Get behind the lads and Rafa they need us.

WE'LL WIN IT SIX TIMES
WE'LL WIN IT SIX TIIIIIIMES
IN ANCIENT GREECE
WE'LL WIN IT 6 TIMES.

Good post.

I liked it a lot, it would have been better if it also described the face of that Evertonian as LFC went scoring, but I think I understood you only had the Evertonian near in the first half. I'd pay money for just seeing that Evertonian face after the 120 mins.

Just like good red wine, this red stories will be even better and legenday years later. Legend.  :nod

Also my uncle who is a bitter blue rang me mums on the monday and on the tuesday he never rings, he was going on AC Milan will win bla bla, she hasnt heard from him since its been two years now he will probably ring her next week and say the same

It'll be cool if we win the European Cup for a few reasons:

1- We'll win a sixth title, which is very good obviously.
2- An entire year of LFC fans singing "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!!!!"
3- The campaign for "Star The Seventh!!!!".
4- We get to watch Everton struggle in the UEFA Cup.
5- We can still say "We'd be the record holders if we weren't banned for six years!!!"

Great pic that, and funny to see gerrard and Carra in the fighting mood, where as Rafa in the background serious and thinking. I guess it will be difficult to find Rafa's pics with emotion in his face!!  :)

Not to worry, Cigs, the volume and excitement will start to build this week without a doubt.  With the season put to bed, with the ticket fiasco largely behind us and with the 23rd drawing ever closer that tingle up the spine will happen for all supporters and the buzz will grow.

I had no expectations for Istanbul.  None.  I thought beating Chelsea was the highpoint of the season and, well, maybe to beat Milan was a bridge too far following an overachieving run where we saw off some rather stiff competition.  I just didn't want the lads to get embarassed, which was on the cards by the time half time rolled around.  Thankfully, anger, pride and belief--much of it courtesy of the fans--kicked in and the lads came out ready for battle after halftime.  In the end, amidst all of the joy and hugs and jumping about there was also a strong sense of bewilderment.  How the fook did we pull that out of the hat?  It truly was a magical night.

While it doesn't feel quite the same as two years back--how could it?--we shouldn't diminish the achievement.  Sure, we're a better team than in 2005 but we've beaten better this time out.  PSV, for all of their defensiveness, are a better outfit than Leverkusen.  Barcelona are a better side than Juve.  And this Chelsea team is better than the one two years ago, even if they insist on putting square pegs in round holes.  We've had a challenging road to get to Greece and we've earned our place.  We've come from a goal down at the Nou Camp to beat Barca.  We then kept one of the most potent attacking sides in check for most of the return leg at Anfield.  We spanked PSV on their patch--something that most teams simply do not do.  And, we've managed to overturn a 1 goal deficit against hated rivals who were out for revenge and who had made the CL their mission.  And, from my view, we've done it all with some measure of comfort.  Except for a few short spells against Chelsea at the Bridge and Barca at the Nou Camp, we've not really been under the cosh.  Even when our opponents needed to take the game to us we've largely controlled tempo and possession, creating chances to put them away (remember Momo hitting the bar against Barca?  Or Kuyt against Chelsea?  How sweet would it have been had those gone in?).  Point is, we've taken our place in Athens with some degree of style.  And, this time, rather than expecting a pasting, I'm expecting a good game between two top teams.  I can't wait! :buttrock

Nice little read that. It's always interesting to hear other people's perspectives on what they were doing that evening.

As for the general ethos surrounding the build up of the occasion, I've no doubt that people are just being coy and conservative, now that this is our second showing in the CL final in only two years. The embers are just smouldering waiting to be stoked into flames of passion. Those of us who are old enough to remember past European glories have had their memories dimmed of what it was like to taste victory back then, only to have it reignited again in he wake of Istanbul. In that same generation, the experience of winning European titles was something of a regular thing, or something that at least came along every few years, and so we became drunk on success, and formed a barrier of confidence and an air of expectancy that's made us the football club that we are today.

The newer generation will not have known any of this. Only through pictures, video, and lore like the tale Ciggy wrote. Getting to the last final would have been like their national side making it to the world cup final. It would have come with complete shock, coupled with thoughts of "what if" and "just imagine". They had never experienced such a grand occasion as a red. It was the stuff of dreams, just as it was for them to watch their bitterist of enemies, the Mancs, win it in '99 - a nightmare. Now it was their turn. Their turn to reclaim the ghosts of Shankly, Paisley and Fagan, and silence the forked tongues of the Red Devils for good, with names of the saints and scholars that would eventually bequeath them fabled memories of their own.

As of now, older and newer generations can relate to knowing what it's like to taste glory at the highest of levels. We know we are there now. We've been here before, all of us. We know this is the calm before the storm. We expect now. We expect now because we know we can win it again as we have won it before.

We expect!

Good post Lynds.

I'll be honest, I just can't get into the same midframe that I was in 2 years ago, mainly due to this complete ticket farce. I love this club more than anything but this whole episode has been an absolute dosgrace. I'm now travelling over to Cyprus and then on to Greece with no guarantee of getting a ticket for anything less than £400.

FWIW I actally think we'll win this game but the build up has been low key to say the least. I blame this on the typical Sky media who were w@nking over a Chelsea-Manc final for weeks and describing it as the "dream final", despite the fact that Chelsea are still a cure for insomnia after spending £300m.

Unfortunatly for me I cant get in the same mood because of Maddy McCann, my heart is broken that this little gril was taken so cruely.
I am devasted. To the point that football doesnt matter if she is not found by the time we win the CL final, for the victory parade I am going to church to ask for 5000 candles to be given out at St Georges Hall and all be lit in the dark.
And for everyone to sing YNWA.
When the team bus pulls up.
