There is no harm in posing a simple question...
To my mind for the seasons since Owen was sold we have lacked a forward who can be relied upon to score in excess of 20 league goals a season. Of the current crop I do not think that anyone can argue that Kuyt, Bellamy, Crouch or Fowler are capable of this, and more recent hopeful signings such as Morientes and Cisse have failed.
David Trezeguet is a proven goal scorer - and his goal to game ratio in europes most defensive league is very very good.
For the right money he would still be a punt, but any signing would be - I think he is worth it. He has matured as a player and a man and is nearing his peak.

Nearing his peak  ???  He's 30 this year , it's all downhill from now on . He does have a fine goal record but I don't think he's even into double figures this season (?).

No we definitely don't need him. Past his best and would struggle with the pace of the Premiership.

david has never really been an outstanding world class player
(he's a different class to alikes of of henry, nistelrooy, even rooney and owen). he's a very good player, but he's past his best.  i would never want david more than crouchie

he was courted by Houllier a few years back but didn't think much of us then...so now that we won the Champions League and have a few bobs, I think we should set our sight higher. Rafa mention his name to divert attention from his real target

In my humble opinion, a better buy to add steel to the front line, with a great attitude, tough as nails and knows the english and european game inside out would be Ruud Van Horseface.

He's as miserable as hell at RM, he's not scoring and I think LFC are one of only 3 teams he would consider playing for (LFC, Man Utd and Chavski).

He'd be a much safer bet and more productive in the premiership than Trezeguet. In fact, would I rather have Van Horseface or Crouchie..... ???

I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, Fergie is not in the habit of letting players go at their peak. He had a bad injury at OT and has never seemed the same player since. He was never the quickest player, and we have enough slow forwards already. 5 years ago or even 3 years ago yes, now I wouldnt want him, we can get better players for the price and the wages he would want.

Instead of spending 10 million pounds on a 30 year old forward who's going downhill soon, why not spend the money on a 20 year old striker who has represented his country in for youth team?
