They do, and Platini has to pass legislation which is widely approved by the eighteen or so clubs in G14. I admire Platini as a player, but as a person I do not like him and I feel that a person with such hatred towards several clubs should not be chairman of UEFA.

It will be interesting to see if Platini is a lot stricter in terms of punishments than the previous chap who find Chelsea £250,000 for Jose going off in a strop.

The big clubs in the big countries will ensure their interests are not hurt - they'll threaten to form a break away.

It would be terrible for Lfc as Manu and Chelsea are the best two teams and LFC versus Arsenal for the third spot would be dodgy, especially with the Arsenal youngsters.

I definately don't think it will be cut back to 3. Too much money at stake.

Bad decision.

You all know who should be UEFA President.

His first name is "The".

His surname is "Project"

His middle name is "Manhattan"

It would be madness if he limited the places to three in England,There is a big four in England and you cannot leave one of these out, team like Liverpool, man utd chelsea arsenal, none of the can cope if they are not in the champions league, and then that makes it harder for the likes of Bolton,Spurs, maybe Reading to get here noses in the uefa cup, they wopuld have no chance for the champiosn league

England is the only league in the world where you have four teams that are capable of winning the chmapions league,Liverpool won it 2 years ago,Chelsea made the quarters, the semis, man utd are always in with a shout and arsenal made the final last year,In Spain, you have Valencia,Real madrid and Barcelona, they might only need three places as Sevilla are not a huge team and they will probably take Uefa cup football,Italy have Milan,Inter,Juventus and thats it really with Fiorentina and Roma going for Uefa cup,so three places wouldnt efeect those countires but they will effect the best league in the world the Premiership.

And that :censored: better not get what he wants

The problem is that the Champions League has become way too big.

It's already killed the Cup Winners Cup and it may do so with the UEFA Cup.

It would never happen, but this might be a better system:

Prem

1- Chelsea (Champions League)
2- Man Utd (Champions League)
3- Arsenal (UEFA Cup)
4- Liverpool (UEFA Cup)

La Liga

1- Barcelona (Champions League)
2- Sevilla (Champions League)
3- Real Madrid (UEFA Cup)
4- Valencia (UEFA Cup)

SPL

1- Celtic (Champions League)
2- Rangers (UEFA Cup).

...and so forth.

UEFA could devise coefficients for the leagues of Europe. The weaker ones would have to qualify for both competitions in preliminary stages. Both competitions would use a smaller scale group stage and two-leg knockout format.

The winners of domestic cups would also go into the UEFA Cup if applicable. The Intertoto Cup would be discontinued.

With better teams in the UEFA Cup, it might spread out some of the interest. Instead of having two competitions where 50 per cent of the teams are total :censored: and the last two games of the group stages are often meaningless. The winners of both cups would play each other to decide the "UEFA Cup Winners Cup" winner in a kinda "Community Shield" match, which would replace the Super Cup (previous Super Cup victories would be counted as CWC victories, so if a club had won 2 CWC's and 2 Super Cups, then they would be regarded as being four-time CWC winners).

If they don't do this, then reintroducing a straight knockout format to the existing UEFA Cup competition is the only other option, since the group stage format is a joke and the lack of interest could mean that qualifying for this competition is actually a burden to a club rather than an asset.
