Platini wins uefa presidency

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Postby Redman in wales » Fri Jan 26, 2007 1:30 pm

Michel Platini has been elected Uefa's new president after beating previous incumbent Lennart Johansson in a vote in Dusseldorf.

Johansson had spent 17 years in the post, but will now pass control over to French footballing legend Platini.

The former Juventus star won the election at Uefa's Congress by 27 votes to 23 to deny Johansson a fifth term in office.

Among Platini's election pledges was a promise to cut the maximum number of places in the UEFA Champions League for one country to three.

He had also been advocating the introduction of two extra assistant referees to aid match officials, rather than resort to the use of video technology.

---------------

So the big four in this country will now have to fight for 3 places.... this is going to get interesting!!!

(and by 'now' i mean in 2009 which is when he plans to introduce it. )

Platini is a c#nt. He didn't want us in the CL when we finished fifth because he felt we hadn't been punished enough for Heysel. Allegedly.

Platini is Blatter's lapdog so now UEFA are effectively controlled by that fat corrupt f#ck.

Say hello to World Cups every two years, 16 teams in the top division, no games over christmas, play-offs, and no drawn matches. I'd like to see a list of the countries who voted for that bitter tw@t - just so I have an idea where we'll see Champions League finals and European Championships in the near future.

I'd be amazed if the number of CL clubs ends up being reduced..... At the end of the day, more clubs means more games means more revenue..... The sponsors would not be impressed either..... A lot of people use strong talk in their election manifesto's but don't end up delivering on them....

This is not going to be good. Only 3 teams in CL? That's crap.

He is a co.ck but he does not have the final say on anything!Basically he is just a figurehead.

All the decisions must be voted on through a panel after alot of discussion..I really don't think too much will change!

A lot more pressure on getting a top 3rd spot if it does happen. But it will be interesting to see what does happen with this pleb in charge.

Could only be a good thing for us in the long run, whats 4th anyway?
Remember Shanks if your second your nothing.
One things for certain though if this comes into progress none of the top teams will be @rsed with the F.A.Cup or Carling Cup, or expect the G14 to break away into a european league.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

4th is actually a lot when you finish 5th and go on to win it! :)

He supposedly went mad when we got in the year after winning it - saying why dont we just give England 6 places in the CL.

Not a fan
