Dioufy has arrived! - The improved el hadji diouf

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby gray » Sun Sep 21, 2003 1:31 pm

I have been to all but one of our games this season and the star so far has been El Hadji Diouf.

I was one of very few who stuck by Dioufy last season when some of the idiots who ring the phone ins and begin the tale with.... I haven't been to the game today but.....were demanding he be sold and all that sort of lunacy.

You dont win consecutive african footballer of the year crowns by being a bad footballer.

GH has said all along that dioufy would need time to settle and he was spot on. Henry, pires, viera, veron head a list of players whose football wasnt at its best in the early days of there premiership careers,  but look at them now!!

We are starting to see the player who terrorised the french in the world cup. Make no mistake dioufy will be fantastic for us this season.

He's certainly had a great start and he's given the fans something to get excited about. In fact he has given the team the sort of width that we bought Harry Kewell for and I think once they both get going together they will scare defences to death this year. If Diouf can add a few goals to his amazing runs he could end up having one of the best years of his career. It's up to him, and I wish him well.
Don't forget the work Smicer is putting into the game - he's another who's taken stick but he is covering a lot of ground for the team. They both played well yesterday, nearly as good as Gerrard who is vital to this new attacking formation. -Keep doing what you doing boys.

I'm delighted Diouf is beginning to prove his detractors wrong.
Smicer is also proving to be an integral part of our new attacking line-up.

It's easy for those who doubted diouf to speak in hindsight about how great he is.  The truth is this kid has always been a great player.  I FOR ONE HAVE NEVER DOUBTED IT.  I HAVE HAD MY DOUBTS ABOUT MURPHY AND CARRAGHER. JAMIE HAS PROVED ME WRONG BUT DANNY STILL GIVES THE BALL AWAY TOO MUCH FOR ME.  gH MUST BE CONGRATULATED ON MAKING A FORWARD INTO A WINGER AN IF DIOUF KEEPS DEVLOPING WE MAY WELL HAVE THE WIDTH ON BOTH SIDE OF THE PITCH THAT WE HAVE ALL LONGED FOR.

Hey Big Al

That also my opinion of Murphy, but then his other play is good. It seems to me it happens at the begining of games in particular.

Never been a 100% on Smicer but being proved wrong of late. He seems to look good but then loses composure near the goal but that seems to be improving.

Riese said recently that Smicer used to disappear from the game for periods.

AL Juiif - always thought he had potential and was always a willing work horse.

:D   What do you think about the fact that his runs amount to a missed pass or a lost ball?

His crosses when existent rarely connect.

His "pass" to Heskey was a shot....?

If we were an attacking team with the mindset to make attacking runs as a team he would be perfect.  But we are not.

Did we not stand around sitting on our laurals after the first goal???  Do any successful teams play that way?  Were we successful Sunday?  Did Diouf do anything about it?

How about playing him in the center?  A short pass to Owen from the middle which his runs can surely provide would work wonders.  Gerrard is more competent at crossing from the right and Kewell would be great up the left.   Smicer in the middle? ???

Does anyone remember the Leicester game???  Same deal.

Diouf has been great this season, look elsewhere for Liverpool's failings this term.

I dont understand why the boss doesn´t link Salif Diao across the back with Phil Babb, those 2 are on fire this season.

Salif Diao.

My God, we did sign some cack players under Houllier! Makes me laugh, and cringe all at the same time.

The thing about Diouf is that he's actually a very decent player.

Unfortunately, he's also probably the biggest idiot currently playing in the Prem. In a parallel dimension where he exists without the spitting, the diving, the mouthing off and the general idiocy, he could still be at the club and doing a job in the squad.

But of course, he's not a squad player. He's a superstar who deserves to be first on the teamsheet even ahead of the goalkeeper.

diouf was the prime example of eveything wrong with liverpool at the time and one of the costly mistakes that ended g,houlliers time at the club. What a difference it makes to this years signings,i had almost lost faith in new signings sparkling staight away untill this season when all of them have looked good straight away and they look so eager to impress unlike the diouf years,Diouf had plenty of abilty but the good think rafa does when he signs players is he looks at the players atitude and background unlke mr houllier
