Owen won't be at anfield much longer. And lets face it with his contrubtion to the team over the last two seasons he will hardly be missed. He is world class, a world class goal hanger, who gives little else to the team!!

Owen has not been playing brilliantly for the last couple of seasons but surely most of the blame goes to the poor service that he gets.

It is a bit harsh, kenco, as I have always held Owen in high regard because he gives his all to Liverpool (maybe his passion is not as evident as Gerrard's) and he has been one of our best players in the last five years. If he goes, I hope he goes for good money because Liverpool sure needs the funds.

Owen's biggest weapon is his pace. He is just not the same player without it. Lets all see how he responds against croatia. England have been playing really poor in this tournament. Infact they have been playing a lot like liverpool. No coordination between defence and midfield. Not enough supply to the front 2. And boring, boring football. So can't put all the blame on owen. He is getting the same service in the national team as he gets at liverpool....none.

Joe cole should have been playing on the left wing instead of scholes. Another player who was good 2 years ago, but keeps getting picked because of his past contributions. Man he sucks.....  :p

Tell me Azriahmad when was the last time owen did anything that had you on the edge of your seat? Do you really think he would be missed if he went. He's about as exciting as standing a wordrobe in the penalty area!!

Ah, f*ck it. Let's have the following starting eleven next season (based on who we currently have):

                      Dudek

        Finnan     Hyypia       Riise

                    Carragher

                     Gerrard
          Diouf                  Kewell

           Baros     Ciise     Owen

Carragher can drift between the back 3 and midfield to give support when needed to either area, leaving Stevie free to burst forward knowing that there's adequate cover. A (kind of) 3-1-3-3 formation like this is fine for countering both 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formations as neither defence or midfield should ever really be shorthanded. If we lose the ball in attack, Jamie can press on to join Gerrard in the middle of the park, and if we lose the ball in midfield, he can track back to join Hyypia in defence. And from what I've seen of Cisse, he starts his runs from just in front of midfield as opposed to up with the last man anyway, so it's actually more like a flexible 4-4-2 anyway (or 3-5-2, depending on the situation), with Carragher acting as a pseudo-Hamman defensive midfield role, and Cisse making himself useful in stopping counterattacks building from the opponent's half.

And when Carragher actually has the ball, he can have both Riise and Finnan as options either side acting as outlets to start attacking again. He wouldn't ever really need to leave our own half of the field.

There's goals in that side, Brian.

And, in answer to the question, Baros should definitely have had more chances last season, and I've seen nothing much from Owen to suggest that Benitez shouldn't be brave and kick off the new season with him up front.

Argue about his world-class credentials all you want - Baros is well capable of banging in over 20 a season, and to be honest Owen doesn't always look capable of finishing many more than 20 games a season. If it wasn't for all the horsesh*t about Owen's contract, I'm sure Houllier would've been braver with his team selections last season and allowed Milan to make a name for himself. I'm delighted that Baros is making headlines at Euro 2004, as it's showing LFC exactly what they've been missing.

Given half a chance, Baros could turn out to be the kind of goal machine we've lacked since Fowler's heyday.

Defenders cottened on to Owen years ago, but he has never adapted his game, all they do is stand a yard off him and don't let him turn,he must be a piece of ****** to play against. he does'nt drop of or pull men out of position with his movement.he's easy to read and a greedy little bastart!!

:O HI, YES I AGREE THAT, BAROS SHOULD BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY WITH CISSE, TO WHICH THEN OUT OF THE TWO IT WOULD BE BETTER TO SELL OWEN THAN GERRARD.

who'd wanna buy owen the way hes playing. i wouldn't pay 25 quid for im never mind 25 million and ive being saying that he'll come back to form for so long that i dont believe that anymore. hes injured too often and doesn't score as many goals as he used to.
baros looks much better than owen at euro 04 and im delighted hes doing so well cos i put a tennor on the czechs to win the competition.

He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
