I saw a programme about Gazza's time in Italy last night. He was probably Englands greatest creative talent and England could have done with a copy of him in the last world cup. He was mad though.

jumped in a lobster pot, hopped into a full bus and drove off, put snake in Di Mateo's pocket and loads of other stuff.

Unfortunately I feel that all of todays footballers are a bit bland.

How would you rate Gascoigne and are there any players as mad as he was out there today?

Jimmy Bullard is a bit of a loon, theres quite a few vids on youtube with him in them off his head. Not as good as Gazza in his day, but the money side of the game has ruined personalities in the game there isnt many cult heros around anymore.

Gazzas book had me laughing my head off reading it. It's one thing watching something like Alan Partridge or Dumb and Dumber and laughing out loud because your watching something, but to read something and be pissing yourself usually means it really has to strike a chord. Gazzas book is indeed really funny!!!!

Paul McGraths (Ireland's greatest ever player) is an alcaholic and his book is mostly about that. He won the Irish sportsbook of the year last week and was awarded a prize. The reception was in the Guiness brewery- I'm serious. Only in Ireland.

I thought Gazza was terrific, real character and a bit nuts as well and one hell of a footballer.

My cousin was having a chinese (used to be a famous one with the owner dressed as Elvis) on the old kent road with his workmates, this is back in 1990 after the world cup and Gazza walked in to pick up a takeaway, he had just finished filming in the Paul Daniels xmas special. He asked if he could join them, ordered booze for the table while he was waiting and cracked jokes and did magic tricks. Theres thousand of stories about him but I do like that one as it showed him to be the loveable loon that he was. It must have been insane being in a team with him

Me too brother, I was doubled over - Id be on that wavelength too no doubt.

Trouble with Gazza is it's all old news.... The bloke is now a wreck and for all the laughs he gave people, he wasn't actually there to do that. Call me a humbug but the majority of us on this forum now have more than he has, yeah he's got the memories but they ain't no good to you when you're skint and you don't even own a house.....

Surely he can make a decent living in the same way George Best did - speaches, media etc?

Gaza is from a different era: no player could behave the way he did and get away with it nowadays, indeed Gaza ultimately didn't get away with it in the 1990s.

I remember as a kid watching Gazza when he first broke onto the scene. Opposition fans used to throw Mars Bars at him when he was at Newcastle and the nutter would actually scoff them during the game!

There was also a mad story about him in the late 1990s where he apparently brought a pint of Guinness onto the pitch during a testimonial match and lashed it back. :laugh:

I saw him live a few times and he was a nutter

but very entertaining. He was just non stop, pulling faces and gesturing all the time

He's struggling to do that at the moment, he turns up at do's already p*ssed and tries to get away with clowning about but it ends up being embarrassing.
He's been given a few chances at coaching etc but he let's himself down 'cause he's always on the sauce....
