Despite this decimation of the CM ranks and the likelihood that one of our centre-backs is going to have to fill in there, I'm just thankful Diao's not still lurking around Melwood.  What does that say? :D

Carra will do a job there no worries.. eh- here is a lad as versatile and passionate as they come. He's been deployed across the whole of defence, with equal merit for each position he's adopted. Now the fella may be asked to add another string to his bow, and help out the skipper in midfield.
ive no doubts about him pulling this off either....who knows, Rafa may yet discover new and exciting 'possibilities' from it  :)

Fantastic, Zenden was just starting to improve performance wise much like Gonzales. As for Agger playing there, I'm not so sure, he does like to run with the ball and dribble up the pitch, as we know Gerrard doesn't have the greatest discipline, so it could cause us more problems than what we need. I'm more inclined to go for Lee Peltier and Steven Gerrard. I like Peltier, he seems like a decent player, it would be good to hand Peltier another match to gain experience.

There's a reason why Carragher no longer plays in the middle, he's woeful when it comes to distribution and ability on the ball.

Agger has more ability on the ball in his big toe than Carragher.

Carragher is :censored: in the middle, I'd play Agger ahead of him any day of the week. But because he's Scouse and sound and will :censored: you with a pound, he can do no wrong.

For me Agger and Hyypia are big no nos for midfieild, both are to upright, lack the fast movements and agility to play in central midfield. I would defo go with Carragher in the centre, he has enough experience there, and while he wont shine their he defo will not disgrace himself, for me he is the best option by miles.

Agger is faster than Carragher or Hyypia, he's more comfortable on the ball.

He's dribbled past players in his own penalty box, he has an eye for a pass and he can move forward well when he needs too.

Carragher doesn't have enough ability to play there imo. When he has, he hasn't impressed me.

Carragher has a low centre of gravity that allows him to cover small periods very quickly and turn sharply, things that Agger doesn’t have, and things that are quite important while playing in central midfield, especially if it is not your natural position.

I see were everyone is coming from because Agger is the most comfortable on the ball but he lacks the genuine mobility, the game will pass him by if he plays in central midfield, it will be too fast for him.

Anyone remember the Rio Ferdinand experiment last season? Fergie quickly discarded that idea, just because someone is good on the ball it doesn’t mean that they are more qualified to play in central midfield.

Carragher may not have the technique to play as a genuine central midfielder, but he is intelligent enough to play that role and has the natural physical attributes to play the role well.

That's a very good point however, Benitez ranted about Danny's versatility and ability just the other day before we played City.

Rafa has a lot of confidence in the lad so it wouldn't surprise me if he played there tomorrow.
