Gerrard centre of attention as Zenden is ruled out

Zenden: month on the sidelines

Rafa Benitez was left with the ultimate irony of having Steven Gerrard left as his one fit central midfielder yesterday after Bolo Zenden was ruled out for at least a month with a knee injury

The Liverpool manager was left surveying a decimated midfield after Zenden joined Momo Sissoko and Xabi Alonso among the absentees with a knee problem that will take between four to six weeks to heal.

With Sissoko sidelined until the New Year with a damaged shoulder and Alonso targeting the December 9 game with Fulham for his comeback from a bruised hip, Benitez must choose between centre-back Jamie Carragher and untried 19-year-old Danny Guthrie to partner Gerrard against Portsmouth tomorrow, Wigan on Saturday, and Galatasaray in the Champions' League next Tuesday.

:censored:, when it rains, it pours, eh?

Well, hopefully we'll get Alonso back soon.  Fook me, we may need to do an England and employ Carra in the holding midfield role!

Actually, on second thought, Agger wouldn't be a terrible shout for makeshift CM.  He's got the skills on the ball, at the very least (not to mention a decent shot on him).  Worth considering, I should think.

Exactly what I was planning to write as I read the posts mate.

Agger is MUCH more suited to the midfield role than Jamie.

Riise is another possibility, with Aurelio slotting in at leftback, and GArcia on the left wing.

Riise has played centrally for us before, in midfield AND defence.

As a side-thought - could Kuyt drop back and play the CM role alongside Gerrard? Obviously he'd be the attacking midfielder (and Gerrard do the gimp work a la Fat Frank).

We should still see off Pompey comfortably.

Virtually anyone from our team could slot into midfield and still have enugh for us to beat Pompey!

(He says, confidently. :O :D )

It would be interesting to watch either Agger or Kuyt playing CM.

Agger can do the job in middle, if he can dribble around players in his own box then he can do it in the center circle :D

Aurelio played in the middle for Valencia as well, but I don't know how fit he is as he's been out with an injury for a while.

People wanted less rotation and less Zenden, there you go
