Was a joke, mate.  See, people are always going on about how awesome Stevie is in the centre

Change of plan.

Didn't Pepe play in the middle of midfield in pre-season? Give him a run in there. :D

Finnan           Carra          Agger           Riise

Pennant               GERRARD                Garcia

Surley we can field more than 10 players?  :D

Sigh...

The joke was that, with Gerrard so happy to be back in his fave position, we only need 10 men.  :pirate

The humour in that post of yours flew over quite a few people's heads didn't it mate.... (including mine at first tbh).....

As you rightly pointed out..... it's not just raining, it's bleeding cats and dogs time....

Not too sure bout using Agger in CM as that would mean that we'd have to play Sammi back in the heart of defence..... The pace that Pompey has upfront could cause us problems.....

Be nice if one of the young 'uns could step up and partner Stevie in CM.... Short of that, I's say that we need Paletta to step in for Sammi if we push Agger up to the defensive central mid position...

Either way it's risky as Agger has no experience in the role and the young 'un has no experience period.....

Not a good time to be experimenting as we need to build up some sort of momentum at the mo....

Aurelio could be the answer...

Are you bloody insane Bob? :D

Pennant and Garcia on the flanks with Gerrard alone in the midfield? We'd be slaughtered. If you haven't noticied, Pennant is like Garcia when it comes to posssesion. Except he hasn't produced brilliance that has won us a game while Garcia has.

They're too wasteful in possession and Gerrard would be trying to win the ball back that they lost for most of the game.

Agger will probably most likely play in the center. Benitez mentioned how versitile he is and how he isn't afraid to play him in different positions. That was before the City game, and he played as a LB there [he played there in Denmark as well].

He'll be our holding midfielder on Wed.

Was a joke, mate.  See, people are always going on about how awesome Stevie is in the centre............

Oh, never mind!  :D

i understood your gag Bob  :D

Echo today is reporting that Pompey also have a lot of injuries and that Lua Lua is one of the ones that's crocked.  That's their main pacey striker out of action, anyway.

Good news for us that..... should be able to use Agger in midfield and Sammi in defense without too much trouble I reckon.....

When I spoke to my mate earlier and told him that Zenden was injured, can you believe that he actually seriously suggested playing Hyypia in midfield. :O

Thinking of Hyypia in midfield makes me think of a video from Planet Earth which featured an Elephant getting overwhelmed my loads of lions and eventually dying.

That can't be a good thing right? :D

Rafa has mentioned Hyypia as a possible option!

My initial thought was also for Carra to come in and do the job but Agger looks the best bet. He has a greater range of passing, is more confident on the ball and a sweet left foot. Rafa seemed to indicate that Agger was the frontrunner on SSN earlier this evening. He said that Agger had told him that he used to play centre-mid as youth player.
