bigmick wrote:It's amazing when you think about all the b0ll0cks I spout on here, but I've never been. I've followed Liverpool up and down the country but for whatever reason, though I've had a few opportunities I've never been. These days I get to go to a couple of London Away games if I'm lucky, and I occasionally go to one of the local grounds as a neutral if there's a few lads going and there's a ticket kicking around. Though I've never made any secret of my "virgin" status I guess I've never actually advertized it either but there it is anyhow.

Anyways to cut a long story long, it was me fortieth the other week and a good pal, (she runs a pub down the road from mine) has got me and the missus a ticket each for the Bordeux Champions League game. Now I know I'll justifiably feel put out that I'm denying somebody more deserving a ticket,  but I've never done it before and as I'm emigrating to New Zealand in a few weeks, it'll like as not be the only chance I've got left to go. Hopefully the person who's ticket I've taken will get to go sometime in the future, I really mean that.

So what? the world asks. Well, I've checked the trains out and first question is, is it really the case that the last train out of Liverpool to London is at twenty to nine? If it is then obviously we're driving (or sarah is, feck that for a game). If so, where's the best spot to park, go for a beer etc etc.

Next question, and I know I'm pushing it a bit here. But if  anybody fancies meeting up with us in one of the said pubs I'd love to put a few faces to the posters as it were. If I've   p!ssed anyone off this is your chance to tell me to my face as it were. Any advice would be greatly appreciated if nobody can make it.

I do realise that this post has probably destroyed any semblance of credability I had left but there you go.  I guess that's the biggest change when you get to forty, you don't care about such things anymore  :)

Mate you dont know what youre missing, its undescribable  :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock

The only thing is being 6'2 its a b@5tard getting into the seats without kneeing someone in the head

I'm going to the game Big Mick and I usually have 1 in the Sandon. Its not as bad for getting served as the impatient Johnny Mac says it is :D

Let us know where your intending to be and I'll do my best to make it :)

I used to work in a very big company and this bar in the city centre Cardiff used to send offers to reception, £1 a pint on Fridays between 5 and 9 etc, so loads of people would be there and 1 bar staff about 17 years old would be serving.  Your better off paying 2.50 a pint or whatever, it is annoying.

Oh an Bigmick have a great time  :D

Well, if you were as thirsty as Jonny you'd be getting impatient too.

Thanks everyone for the advice and best wishes sofar. Ian thanks again for your kind gesture and sorry I couldn't take you up on it. I'd defo like to buy you lads a pint though and this Sandon gaff sounds like as good a place as any so if someone can give me clue (or a jar of glue as the vernacular appears to be these days :D ) as to where it is, I'll be there.

As an aside, I can't believe that it's impossible to get a train back darn sarf after the game. Fecks me off sometimes, we moan about too many people driving cars and then we don't put any trains on.

Good for you mate, and don't feel guilty. If you got a ticket you deserve it! I had the opportunity to come up for this one (i've never been to a Champs League game) but unfortunately because of my job (i'm a teacher) i can't get the afternoon off for the travel :-( so i'm hoping a game will fall on half-term one of these days. You will absolutely love it mate. Congrats on heading out to New Zealand, i spent 3 weeks on the South Island last summer (hoping to go back again) and it was awesome. You going to live in the north or the south? I guess you will joining the AM posting club with the rest of our international fan base :D

Just got to bump this one to say that I'm hopefully going to be in the Pub mentioned earlier for a couple o' beers before the game. If anybody fancies saying hello then I'll defo' buy 'em one to celebrate me fortieth. I'll be the fella in the blue 'Deisel' cap, cord jacket with a furry collar and jeans. I've got a pathetic excuse for a goatee and wear glasses, I'm about six foot tall or so. The missus is tall, about an inch or so shorter than me with long dark hair. If you get a chance try and say hello I'd love to put a face to the avatar, Mick.

It is indeed a special place.

Ive been to various stadiums around Europe including Camp Nou and Rome and none give the sort of atmosphere that you find at Anfield.

I get goosbumps every time i hear YNWA and thats not something every supporter can say about their club. :D
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Mate, not interested in saying hello, but could you leave a pint of lager with my name on it, at the end of the bar. I will grab when you're not looking.

Cheers thanks.

Yeah same Mick  :D

Instead of leaving it at the bar, could you bottle it and post it my way, 1st class air, should take three weeks or so.

Have a blast mate and sing until you're hoarse!  Oh, and don't forget to educate your fellow seatmates about the intricacies of zonal marking, pass and move, basic positioning, proper heading technique...
