My trip to anfield. - It's amazing really....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It's amazing when you think about all the b0ll0cks I spout on here, but I've never been. I've followed Liverpool up and down the country but for whatever reason, though I've had a few opportunities I've never been. These days I get to go to a couple of London Away games if I'm lucky, and I occasionally go to one of the local grounds as a neutral if there's a few lads going and there's a ticket kicking around. Though I've never made any secret of my "virgin" status I guess I've never actually advertized it either but there it is anyhow.

Anyways to cut a long story long, it was me fortieth the other week and a good pal, (she runs a pub down the road from mine) has got me and the missus a ticket each for the Bordeux Champions League game. Now I know I'll justifiably feel put out that I'm denying somebody more deserving a ticket,  but I've never done it before and as I'm emigrating to New Zealand in a few weeks, it'll like as not be the only chance I've got left to go. Hopefully the person who's ticket I've taken will get to go sometime in the future, I really mean that.

So what? the world asks. Well, I've checked the trains out and first question is, is it really the case that the last train out of Liverpool to London is at twenty to nine? If it is then obviously we're driving (or sarah is, feck that for a game). If so, where's the best spot to park, go for a beer etc etc.

Next question, and I know I'm pushing it a bit here. But if  anybody fancies meeting up with us in one of the said pubs I'd love to put a few faces to the posters as it were. If I've   p!ssed anyone off this is your chance to tell me to my face as it were. Any advice would be greatly appreciated if nobody can make it.

I do realise that this post has probably destroyed any semblance of credability I had left but there you go.  I guess that's the biggest change when you get to forty, you don't care about such things anymore  :)

i went to my first Anfield match in 1993 (i'd been a fan since 1988 aged 8) and was blown away by the whole thing.  13 years old on a chilly April afternoon watching Liverpool Vs Oldham.  My first Div1 match and just when I thought it couldn't get any better....the KOP (when it was terrace) sang YNWA before the match with their Scarfs held aloft.

I was at the match with some family and they all were(even my scum supporting Uncle) speachless.

P.S this post isn't meant to have a dig...just to tell you Bigmic, you'll NEVER forget your first match at Anfield  :)

As long as its not like my first match - which was a 0-0 against southampton in 1991 -  you'll love it! Infact, I loved it, but was dissapointed there was no goals, and only about 4 shots on goal in the whole game.

Anyways, enjoy it mate, and enjoy NZ... very envious of you going to live out there. My missus aint too hot on idea of living in another country

Im think you probably picked a good night to go Big Mick, even though its Bordeux, as sometimes Saturday league matches can be a bit underwhelming.

Depends where you can find a parking speck Mick.  I normally head in from Townsend Avenue / Townsend Lane way from the East Lancs.  There is a pub called the Farmers Arms on Townsend Avenue about a twenty minute walk from Anfield.  There are usually spaces where there are no double yellows available round there.

Speak to Ian Dalglish, he drives in every game and would know the best specks right by the ground.  Not got a ticket yet but if I'm going I'll deffo bell you for a pint mate.  My cousin sorted me for the Galatasaray game and I'm hoping he'll come up with the goods again mate.

By the way Woollyback, I said I'd meet you for a bevvy before that game, I made my way to The Oakfield because the Sandon was so busy I wasn't prepared to hang around half an hour to get served.

I walked out of a pub on Sunday night just gone for the exact same reason and it wasn't even busy and I weren't drinking alcohol because I was driving.  Five minutes I was stood there and still no nod from the bar staff.  Fuck waiting for more than five minutes for a drink.  Two minutes is pushing it for me then I start getting really fucked off.  I'd rather not spend my money in there after being made to wait.  So I left the pub and went to KFC.

A beer with a people off the forum would be great John so I hope you get a ticket and maybe the Ace can make his way down aswell. Your point about the boozers and waiting is a fair one and it's something I've gone on about non-stop in my life on the other side of the bar. My way of thinking is that if you've got four fellas on a night out and the one who's round it is comes up to the bar, he's prepared to wait about a minute or so before he starts to get a bit ersey. It only takes one of his mates to come up and say "fex sake haven't you got 'em in yet?" and some numpty next door to him at the bar to join the wait and then get served straight away and the old blood starts to boil a bit. Added to that is the fact that as it's busy it's like as not pretty hot in there and the fellas have got steam coming out of their ears by the time the beer arrives. Best case scenario? when it's somebody else's round, you get the "nah feck it we'll have one down the road" and they leave. Worst case? Some poor fecker gets a right hander in the earhole because of the frustration.

why not stick another barman on at five fifty an hour, or employ better people? Maybe one less doorman and two more barstaff is the go. It only takes one group of four lads every hour who think "nah lets get another one in here, it's cool you get served sharpish" and it's paid for itself. That and the fact that peoploe don't want to kill each other for pushing in makes the whole thing a no-brainer.

Those who like being wound-up should go horseracing with a group of guys. When the race finishes and the whole crowd empties to the bar tyou are waiting five deep at a bar with three barstaff drowning under the pressure. Are the people who run these events surprised that the punters want a drink or what? It gets me every time that one.

My mate's younger brother was one of the two bar staff on the other night while I was waiting and I could see he himself was frustrated.  Not his fault, not getting at the staff, even though they had about seven on, of which the other five were pissing about serving round the other side (it's a big bar).  They're normally good in there, let's face it, it's my local and I like to think they all know me.  But nevertheless, I hate the lack of acknowledgement that you're waiting there from them.  A nod of the head at least and I'll be pacified for another couple of minutes, knowing I've been noticed.

The fat fucking Evertonian prick of a landlord was busy on the fruit machine.  My brother was in there, we were watching the Madrid - Barca game and we were standing right by the fruity that he was playing on.  I told my brother in full earshot that I was getting off and the reason why, so the landlord fucking knows about it.  I don't kiss his arse cause it's HIS pub anyway so I'm glad he heard why I was getting off.

If I was him and I overheard a customer like me who spends a fucking fortune in his gaff every year he's had it I would have stopped me from leaving and went and got me the drink myself.

There's only one me though, I didn't explain that last bit very well. :D

Bigmick m8 be prepared for an experience of a lifetime, something for you to take to New Zealand with you, European nights at Anfield are special, when you get to sing You`ll never walk alone before kick-off it will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and send a shiver down your spine ( well it does for me everytime).

Have a great night and i hope the lads put on a show for you.
