my theory although and to the point is in my eyes perfectly in running wirth the feel of the show.

right the island used to be used as an alien base thousands of years ago 10,000bc etc and has obviously been abandoned! recently the american/shadow government have discovered the alien technology and decided to use it as an experimentation island of there own.

the four toed statue is an acient relic of the alien race, or is just a massive hoax that is part of the government experiment. what the experiment is i dont quite know.

Its just another way of saying -Lost city of Atlantis. They were of the highest technology too with maybe some alien input . The tale of 2 cities could be the old enemies -atlantis and Lemuria ?

i couldnt be bothered doing it all in depth, takes to much time and mind power for my current rather tired state. sometime in the near future i will come back with a more detailed theory.
