1. Which team would you like us to play to open our new stadium?

2. What should it be called?  Anfield, Stanley Park, Stanfield... (though this will probably be decided on the sponsors ie Emirates, Reebok etc)

3. New stand names?

It will be called the New Anfield.

I have one question about the new stadium though....

Where is it? ?????

i think it has to be called anfield or new anfield. Plus there HAS to be a stand far bigger than the others which is a single tier...."the kop". I also think there should be a stand dedicated to the people who lost their lvies at hillsborough.

You got that one right dude.

If anything, if it was up to me, I would've picked New Anfield over Stanley Park.

I dont know about you, but New Anfield, in my opinion, implies a certain longevity about the club, that it takes pride in its past, by naming a second home like its previous one.

What do you think?

I know New Anfield will be embraced by a lot of people, on this forum and out of it..

.. why not start a petition to have it named New Anfield instead of Stanley Park?  :D

Stand names:

1. The Spion Kop.
2. The Bill Shankly Stand.
3. The Hillsborough Memorial Stand. (Have a white 96 with an eternal flame either side fashioned into the seats, just as "L.F.C." is now.)
4. The Bob Paisley Stand.

No need for anything else.

lando that is spot on .... :bowdown

rafa's view on the new stadium.lets hope the design can meet some of his requisites. la bombonera or the new riverside....we'll see. it'll be a sad day though for anfield.

RAFA: MY NEW STADIUM DREAM

Paul Rogers 25 September 2006

Rafael Benitez has spoken passionately about his dream of one day leading Liverpool out at a massive new stadium.
With the Reds still planning to leave Anfield for a larger stadium in Stanley Park, Benitez has spoken for the first time about what it would mean to him personally to be the Reds manager on the day the Reds kick-off a new era in a new ground.

"My dream is to lead out the team at the new Anfield," revealed Benitez, "and, if I stay here for three or four more years, then we have that possibility. That would make me really happy. The atmosphere in Anfield is amazing and, if we can do the same in another big stadium, that will be perfect.

"I have been talking to the chairman and Rick Parry about how to do this. It's not easy but I think we can do it. How can you keep the spirit? You can if you keep the support. Then, in maybe 50 years' time, we can talk about the history of the new stadium. But we must feel the supporters behind us.

"Anfield has always been special because of the boot room, the people, winning trophies, the supporters. So just think about a new Anfield with even more fans. The design will be so important. When you talk about a new stadium, it's not necessary to plan one too big.

"If that happens, you separate the supporters from the pitch. The new stadium can be closer and still bigger. I've been to the Boca Juniors stadium - La Bombonera - and that's fantastic. The stands are very steep and I remember being on the bench and the supporters were above me. The atmosphere was amazing. The screaming came from above your head. It's like a coliseum.

"The Kop is amazing. So are all our supporters around the ground. If we can bring these people, plus 10,000 or 15,000 more and, if we are close to the pitch, the atmosphere will be the same as Anfield.

"I know for a fact that it will be easier to bring more money into the club if we have the possibility of a new stadium. Liverpool are special in that we are one of the few clubs in this country who could fill a stadium like that every game."

I know for a fact the stadium will get built, there are tenders going out now for the sub work and a start will go ahead the winter at the latest. This is in spite of every Tom dick and Harry tyring to get us to share with Everton.

This is fantastic news - and I'm particularly intrigued that we can apparently guarantee that £180m is in place! :D

---------

From BBC...

Liverpool close in on new stadium

Liverpool's plans to build a new 60,000-capacity all-seater stadium have moved a step closer after the club secured crucial European funding.

The European Union Objective One grant of £9m will be spent on regenerating the area around the Stanley Park site.

Liverpool were given the money after guaranteeing that the £180m funding for the entire project is in place.

They can now claim £5m from Liverpool City Council and £8.9m from the Northwest Regional Development Agency.

The city council approved a 999-year lease on the stadium site - which is 300 yards away from Anfield - on 8 September.

Planning permission for the scheme came with the proviso that investment would be made in the surrounding area, including the park.

The European money will not be spent on the new stadium but on schemes such as the creation of a shop-lined plaza on the site of their current Anfield home.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry said: "It's another significant step forward in our plans for the building of a new stadium, which we have always seen as a catalyst for the regeneration of the whole area."

Councillor Flo Clucas, chairman of the Objective One project selection sub-committee, added: "This is a major step forward for the people of Anfield.

"It will underpin substantial investment by other partners, whose commitment will help transform the neighbourhood."

And this from lfc.tv...

STATEMENT ON FUNDING FOR ANFIELD REGENERATION
Paul Eaton 28 September 2006

The Objective One Project Selection Committee has agreed to award £9 million of ERDF funding towards a £24.6 million package of environmental improvements to Stanley Park, Anfield.

The award supports other partners’ investment intentions for the Anfield area – including Housing Market Renewal and a new stadium for Liverpool FC – and will help unlock substantial benefits in terms of physical and economic regeneration for north Liverpool.

The funding for the refurbishment of Stanley Park, The Gladstone Conservatory and public realm works is linked to Liverpool FC’s commitment to invest in a new stadium. Liverpool FC provided satisfactory evidence that the funding is available to it to build a new stadium and the award was made on that basis.

The project to refurbish Stanley Park, which includes a new lake, public art and the refurbishment of the historic Gladstone Conservatory, must be completed by December 2008.

“This is a major step forward for the people of Anfield,” said Councillor Flo Clucas, chair of the Objective One Project Selection Sub-Committee. “It will underpin substantial investment by other partners whose commitment will help transform the neighbourhood.

“Jobs, training opportunities and major physical regeneration will build a momentum that we expect to be sustained over time,” she said.

“This is another excellent example of how European Objective One funding can unlock significant investment from other partners to secure the long-term future of communities. In terms of the outputs we have been promised, this investment represents good value for money,” added Cllr Clucas.

This is NOT a grant to Liverpool FC to support the costs of its new stadium. The applicant for the funding is Liverpool City Council and the money is to be spent on Stanley Park, The Gladstone Conservatory and public realm works.

Other sources of funding for the refurbishment work at Stanley Park are Northwest Regional Development Agency (£8.9m), Liverpool FC (£5m) and Liverpool City Council (£1.7m).

A nice thought, but I cant see it as it would prevent expansion.

That would be a nice touch. However the club would see it as lost revenue  .

so how come we can now guarantee we've got funding in place? where's it come from? have the club found an outside investor they're not telling us about?
