If theres one club Id hate for Robbie to go to it would be Bolton I cant stand that team or manager, I will be fuming if Morientes stays and Robbie goes.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I think these type of stories appearing really shows what a good bit of business it was picking Robbie up on loan.
He really seems to be a new player now he is back in the red shirt and i doubt any other club will get the best of him though that wont stop the usual budgie cage litter from the papers

What I don't understand is that he won't cost the club a penny to buy and he's taken a wage drop to about £30k a week to come back to Anfield, surely it would be stupid to let him leave ???

IMO the decision whether Robbie will stay or go will be down to the way Rafa wants to play, i.e. not necessarily how well Robbie plays.  In his interview Rafa seemed to be saying that Robbie's a star player, but he won't fit into his planned style of play for next season.  He seemed to be saying he's going for someone pacy, which makes me think about Defoe again.

Would Rafa rather have Robbie or Defoe?  I'd be happy to bring in Defoe for Cisse, and giving Robbie a new contract.

Rafa's decision is going to based on one question.

Can Fowler play 90mins of 1st team football every week?

if the answer is no, then he's not going to get offered a new contract.

Forgive me for saying so mate but I think that'll be the furthest thing from Rafa's mind. I shouldn't think that Alan Pardew considered that as an essential when he offered Sheringham a new contract either, nor arsene Wenger continually stretching out the tenure of Denis Bergkamp.

You went on record continually before we signed Fowler, saying it was a bad idea. Some of what you said, namely about his physical condition has been proven spot on. As you seem quite knowledgeable though, surely at this juncture even you would admit that Fowler has been an improvement on both what you expected, and the players he has replaced?

Modern day football requires strikers who can sit on the bench, cover for injuries etc but when called upon can impact upon a game. Younger players are often reluctant to do this whereas older, more experienced players can often be ideal for this role. My suspicion is that if you can overcome your preconceptions about Fowler you will accept that he would appear to be ideal for this role.

It makes sense to keep him regardless of who we sign. Why?

1. His contract won't be massive and there's only a one year deal being mentioned anyway.

2. If we can afford to keep him, we could use the cover especially if we're looking to challenge on the domestic and European stages next season. Injuries can put a massive dent in the season without quality cover. Just ask Newcastle...

3. If we do sign younger, faster strikers than Robbie, they would surely gain from playing and training alongside someone with his experience. For a start, there are still very few strikers in the Premiership that can find space like Robbie. His movement off the ball shows his class every time he steps onto the pitch.

i remember fairclough, johnston etc did that in the good ole days. Its about the team, not individuals.

so that shoulder shrugging twat cisse can naff off back to france, and he can take morientes with him aswell.

i expect a massive clear out in the summer, but no panic buying by rafa. I think he has marked his targets and already knows who's going out and who is possibly coming in.

If you read my previous comments on this thread, you will see i openly admt that i have been impressed with Fowler's performances since his return.  However, if you read Rafa's comments, you will see he talks about one thing....Fitness.

"Robbie is top class, no doubt about it, but you also need pace and stamina levels if you want to win trophies. "

You mention Sheringham and Bergkamp, but both of these players can play 90mins at full pace.  Robbie (so far) cannot and although Rafa is trying to give him as much time as possible, his comments today show his patience isn't unlimited.

Sounds like good management to me

As much as we love him the fact is he let himself go in fitness compared to other players and ther is no hiding place in the game today.

But he wants to stay and has talked well about his commitment, living like a monk etc so if he proves it and gets to his peak fitness then we have a fit hungry Robbie Fowler.  If he doesnt then we have to face the facts that he isnt up to it and will meander around with clubs like Bolton etc.

Would you rather a succesful Liverpool or a happy Fowler.

Personally Id rather have both and I hope he gets signed.  I am also pleased that if he does get a contract it will be purely down to his commitment, fitness and skill and not for any sentimental reasons.

Fair comment there Mick . I can only assume from Rafa's qualified praise that he wants a fitter leaner Robbie Fowler and is determined to make Robbie keep his nose to the grindstone and work for his place .

I don't know about a massive clear-out Judgy mate but for sure, there will be a turnover, both to make some space and to generate some funds.
Going through the squad off the top of my head, i would expect the following to be offloaded and have guessed the fees.
              Dudek/Carson 1 million.
              Traore           1 million.
              Warnock        2 million.
              Whitbread      300k.
              Morientes       2.5 million.

As I've said in previous posts to many peoples dismay I expect Cisse to be kept on, if for no other reason that nobody will want him at the end of the season. There is also the add on that he can, of a fashion, play wide-right. His career is alarmingly beginning to resemble that of his illustrious predecessor as Liverpools worst ever signing, El-Hadji Diouff.
