Sick of the long ball football!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Sick of the midfield and defense hitting deep high balls looking for crouch to knockdown.  Its boring and not good enough to beat good sides.  Slick pass & move football is the way to break down sides.  Strikers who have movement and keep defenders on their toes.  i.e. not crouch and morientes.  I really dont think Rafa has any excuse in not playing Cisse through the middle.  Can he honestly say Crouch and Morientes is working or has worked?

The way we played vs Benfica in both legs made it way for them. No good enough!!!

Oh and this tie just confirmed we are not among Europe's elite.  Also all those that think French Football is a joke.  Well they have one side left in the CL as does the Premiership.  Being a Lyon fan must be great.  Watching a side who go out and attack every game they play.  Full of pace and full of goals.  We would stuggle greatly vs Lyon let alone Barcelona.

what good points goat? The only time i've seen liverpool play with long balls is away from home or when playing Chelsea or any other Elite team. The other games we play with high tempo and one touch short passes, and if you don't believe me look at how we scored goals in most games!

Not saying we dont create any chances however the football we play is not what I would say is attacking.  Look at the away leg in Benfica or the Cup game v Utd.  Yes we had plenty possession but did we actually go out and try to beat these sides.  Did we attack in numbers with intent to score goals.  No?  We are too cautious when we dont have to be.  Yes our team is not as good as Barca or Milan or Lyon or Juve.  However the majority of sides we play we are the better team so why not use the better players in a true attacking sense.

No one cannot deny that when crouch plays our gameplan is to hit balls from deep into crouch.  It happens over and over again.

Hyppia in everygame he plays is hitting long balls.  Lets be real here. I do not see much 1 or two touch passing to be honest.  Their are games where we have possession however its too pedistrian to hurt teams.  No pass and move

We should be cautious in all the games, because if we aren't we would score and concede alot of goals! You don't want that to happen do you?

Excuse me but against Man united in the F.A cup, we went out and beat them! because we were better at the day and we played alot of attacking football! Hasn't Gerrard scored over 17 goals this season? and Alonso over 6-7 goals? Well we are using our midfield in the attacking sense! what is Crouch's purpose? he should score goals, hold up the ball for the midfielders to go forward and attack!

Watch the Liverpool vs Newcastle game, Gerrard's goal was a one touch pass goal. Another is Morientes vs Boro.

ok let me ask you this.  How many clear cut chances 1-1 on do we create?  Utd in the cup was dominent in the sense where they never really created anything however I wouldnt say we went for the kill and tried to finish the game.

Benfica away was the best example of a side knowing they are better however not actually trying to win the game.  We lost that game 1-0 when if we tried to win their goal would of been irrelevant.

Surely our goals tally for the season is enough evidence to show we do not play an attacking style of football.  Its not just down to the strikers.

puroresu, look at this in the positive way! how many chances liverpool created last night? about 21 right? isn't this attacking football? against Man united we created about 15 goal attempts, Benfica away we were going for a draw like we always do in the Champions league in the knockout stages. We are creating chances! a heck lot too! but the mentality of our strikers is zero is in the gutter!

My argument to that is 21 shots does not mean 21 chances.  A team could have 10 shots from 35 yards which counts as shots on goals but are they goal scoring chances.  No not at all.

Going away to Benfica looking for a 0-0 means we got what we deserved.  The days of 0-0 being a good result in Europe is long gone.  Scoring away from home is vital.

what are shots on goals? chances! we created chances on target didn't we? so they are counted as GOAL ATTEMPTS!
