If you were called upon to give advice to rafa... - On the strategy of beating benfica

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

This is just a hypothetical question on a real situation...the home game against benfica which we trail by one goal.
Remember the ManU-porto game?
We will be strong favorites just as Man United were at that time... we just hope it will be very different this time.

So if you were a football consultant and you were called upon by a distressed Rafael Benitez to give advice on how to win this game. What would you tell him?

If you walked into Rafas office and told him that,he'd probably start thinking you're a fraud but being the nice guy that he is he will ask...

"how do we go about doing that"

ps:remember you are billing at 1000 pounds per hour so you have to get him interested in what you are saying for as along as possible.... and the only way you can do that is by giving him sensible solutions.

This would probably suite someone with some knowledge of benfica, its players and the portueguese game.

I would say:

Play to Fowler's feet while he's away from goal, and just play it to him when he's in or around the penalty area.

Then he'll score as many as you like. :;):

Oh, and BTW:

I'd work at Anfield for free, nevermind £1000 per hour. I'd clean the sh*tters for a season ticket!  :D

Griffin,he'd probably sign you an autogragh if he doesnt kick you out of his office for wasting his time.

This is a summary what i would advise him:

Agger and kromkamp cant play..

Use 4-4-2

----------------reina-------------------
finnan----carra------hyppia-------riise
----------------alonso-------------------
garcia-----------stevie------------harry
----------crouch--------cisse------

subs:dudek,traore,hamann,fowler,morrientes,warnock and Anderson

If hyppia isnt fit, traore plays...he did ok on saturday.
When Garcia tires or doesnt perform...he's just from an injury...bring on hamman and push SG or cisse on the right depending on there performances on there current positions.

***Thats already a cool 2 hours explaining the team and tactics and we aint finished yet :D***

If i was you i wouldnt go in to Rafa and say "Hi my name is really mudface and i'm a racist wánker who likes to tell people i'm a marine"..........he will probably believe you...........

because its obvious he believed what Rick Parry told him about Cisse being a 14 million pound world class striker......

On the ball our Rafa is...........

This is a fairly easy question to answer:

1)  Don't play Cisse anymore.  Period.  He has no vision and his attitude is horrific.

2)  Don't play Morientes anymore.  He simply hasn't adapted properly to the English game.

3)  Don't EVER play Traore instead of Riise.  Riise creates problems for defenses because of his pace, his skill and his thunderous left foot.  An overlap of Kewell and Riise will create more chances.  Well, that and Traore is absolute garbage.  I'd rather see Warnock.

4)  Get Stevie G more involved.  I wouldn't be against playing a single striker to get a five man midfield where Stevie could get forward more.  A lineup of this sort in my head would look like this:

Goalie: Reina
D: Finnan, JC, Hyppia, Riise
DMF: Hamann, Xabi Alonso
LMF: Kewell
RMF: Luis Garcia
AMF: Gerrard
CF: Crouch

I choose Crouch for this role because he can hold up the ball to create shots for a surging Stevie G or Riise.  Also, if this proves ineffective, you can always sub a midfielder (Didi or Garcia) and bring in a second striker, sliding Stevie G back into the center or the right of midfield.

I would advise him to go back in time to last summer and buy Michael Owen. lol.

errm, If we play like we did against Charlton the we could win but we need to put away at least two of the 26 chance we seem to create every game.

I'd tell him to threaten them with a shotgun and promise them a rolex each if they win. :)
