This topic shouldnt have to be posted and as the title says I fear for England come the World Cup .

I dont fear because we have arguably one of the best Midfields in the world, nor do I fear because we have two strikers that can instill fear into the best defences in the world. Again I dont fear for England because we have such a strong defence.
Could you believe it I fear for England because of our manager.
Sven Goran Erikksson is a public liability, if its not his private life in the papers or the fact he has about as much tactical awareness as a Chimpanzee strung up by the balls.
He is now been shamed in the press talking about how corrupt the English game is, and that so many managers are on the take. This is most probably true but by why the hell is he being quoted about this when he should be keeping a low profile and getting on with his job quietly. Take a leaf out of Rafas book will ya Sven, I dont know whether all this talk about him telling a so-called shiek to by out Villa is true or not and appoint him manager. Its hardly suprising though when Sven was in discussion with Chelsea at the possibility of becoming the successor to Claudio Ranieiri . Only for the F.A to give him a modest pay rise to keep him as England manager, they should of let him go to Chelsea. 1) Because he obviously wouldnt be in the position to f.uck up the England job.
2) He wouldnt of made Chelsea as good as they are today he would of f.ucked that up to.

No but honestly how can the England players put there trust in Sven when he's blabbed about Owen not being happy up at the Toon and just moved from Madrid to claim his World Cup place back, or about Ferdinand being a lazy tw@t, (thats probably true) . But as England manager you cant do things like that, he doesnt learn from his mistakes. I dont think he really cares TBH, and what about the F.A in amongst all this surely now they cannot defend him anymore, surely the patients are wearing thin if reports are true from what I've read Sven could find himself out of a job AFTER the World cup.
The F.A could possibly have to fork out 10 Million in compensation, to a bloke thats all about himself and money.
The apparent compensation fee could be brought down to 3 Million due to Sven's breach of contract on many are occassions.

But in the meantime where does this leave the national side ?
I know many Liverpool supporters couldnt give two hoots about England, but Im English and therefore I could give two hoots.
We have possibly the best EVER national side waiting to be unleashed in Germany but Sven doesnt have what it takes to get the best out of lads. Plus the scandal that goes with it, none of it will help will it. This could be the only chance in my life time to see England possibly win the World -cup yet I do not feel we have a chance while the Swede is a the helm.

Yup, nothing but problems. As you said if Sven did a decent job he might be immune to the repercussions from babblering to the press. but as it is, its hard to see any good qualities.

I think from a neutral point of view, that's its interesting that the FA has so much faith in him. Not just becuase of this incident, but he's showed how inept he really is for awhile now. but the FA have continually backed him.... maybe he's got a few comprimising photo's in a safe deposit box.

Gotta agree witht the person who started the thread on the press though, its too late (probably not actually, just about anyone would do a better job,IMO) to change managers before the world cup. Why try and sabotage now? one or two years ago would've helped England, now its not going to help at all.

I don't see why England rate their midfield so highly. You have no left winger, on the right Beckham is just a pop star but an average footballer (cost you 98 and 02 world cup, not to mention all the penalty misses in 04) and weren't SG and Lampard the central two in Portugal yet they couldn't keep the ball against the portugese. SG is "an engine" and Lampard runs forward to score goals but who will keep possession?

Remember this is the same team who lost to Northern Ireland and were slated as being rubbish (obviously an over reaction)

If Rooney isn't fit then I don't think you'll have a good WC, if he is fit then I think you'll make last 8 (last 4 would be a surprise but I can't imagine any further)

I agree about Sven though.
