Gunners 'agree Vieira fee'

Spanish radio claims Real Madrid have agreed a £23.1m fee with Arsenal for midfielder Patrick Vieira.
But according to the Cadena SER station, the Gunners have asked for a few days to line up a replacement.

The English champions have already been linked with Porto midfielder Maniche, who starred for Portugal in Euro 2004.

Prisa, the media group that owns Diario AS and Cadena SER, has an investment in Real Madrid TV and is thought to be close to the Bernabeu outfit.

Vieira has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with Real Madrid for most of the summer.

Bought from AC Milan for £3.5m eight years ago, the 28-year-old has not commented on a possible move to the Bernabeu.

But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stated at the weekend that he believes the player will stay at Highbury.

Yes.. I red that earlier...this like the Gerrard saga looks to dragged and in this case, have concluded.. agonisingly for the fans of the champions.. Great for us..

but the pressure / anxiety it puts fans under is enormous... there's too much silence from the clubs... :)

The fans are always the last to know, shame but that's how it's always been, guess they can't say much until the deal is done. :(

Huge blow for Arsenal if he goes which looks more and more likely. Maniche is a good player but Viera will be irreplaceable.

i think all this irreplacable stuff is b*ll*cks. fair enough hes a great player but whos to say wenger wont go and sign a player who he can mould into the leader and driving force of his team. anelka looked quite hard to replace but who did wenger buy???

write them off at your peril. wenger with 25(?) mil to spend is a dangerous prospect

Whose writing them off? With or without Viera, Arsenal are going to be the team to beat because they are that good but Viera is a huge influence on the team that can't be replaced overnight.
To compare the impact of losing Anelka to the impact of losing Viera is a joke. Anelka was never the best player in the world in his position, Viera is and for every Henry that comes good there's a Wiltord that doesn't. What do you think Wenger would sooner have £25m or Patrick Viera ?!
The Viera's and Gerrard's of this world are rare and no manager can just mould someone to be the driving force and leader of his team, that's why clubs are prepared to shell out big sums of money to try and get them!! Get Real !!

Looks like Wenger is lining up Michael Carrick and a Argentinian chap from River Plate to replace Vieira.
Jolly Bob Grumbine.
