I hope rafa is bluffing

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Paul C » Thu Oct 06, 2005 10:58 am

Rafa Benitez today denied reports linking him with Real Betis winger Joaquin, after a Spanish newspaper claimed the player's agent attended the Chelsea game as a guest of Liverpool Chief Scout Paco Herrera.
"These stories are false," said the Liverpool manager. "I keep reading in the Spanish press that we are trying to take Joaquin to England. The agent did not come to the Chelsea game and we have never made any offer or suggested other players as part of a transfer deal.

"Our position is clear. We are not interested in bringing the player to Anfield and I can only assume that people in Spain are trying to move the player out of Betis."

I hope he's just trying to keep the price down with these comments :(

Well if the reason not to bring him is that it'd be too expensive I'd understand.

Perhaps the agent of Joaquin is interested in elevating his cache and is using Liverpool for this, and Rafa doesn't want to be used the name of Liverpool for the agent's own agenda.

In that case, fair enough.

I have to agree with Stu, what the point of buying average or good players cos they don't cost too much, we should sell some average players and generate the money for Joaquin cos he's world class  :;):

hasn't rick parry just recently confirmed that simao is our primary target? if that's true then we're not going to be going after joaquin as well

i do hope it's a bluff though cos as stu says a player of joaquin's quality IS worth breaking the bank for and could make a crucial difference for us

I dont remember any Liverpool manager EVER publicly stating they want a player well before they are able to buy him, that would be very foolish...it would probably drive up the price and would also push other clubs into acting if they are interested.
Rafa is not stupid, he wants a right winger and Joaquin is one of the best...if not the best in the world.
He would take him anytime...the only stumbling block would be the fee.
I would not worry about those comments in the slightest.

Of course I agree you mates in that he is class and I'd love to see him in Liverpool.

I just can't believe Rafa doesn't consider Joaquin for Liverpool and it's strange that he says he has no interest, there must be a good reason to say that.

<Speculation>
If contacts have been made and Joaquin wasn't THAT interested to come to Liverpool as stated in the media, I'd feel p*ssed off If I was Rafa, used by the player. In that scenario, I'd say what Rafa has said in order not to make Joaquin's agent a favour.

If he'd be just too expensive I'd say the "He's class, but it's difficult to bring him due to money" kind of phrase.

I'm just saying that there must be a good reason for Rafa to say that, because quite frankly, I find unbelieveable that he doesn't consider Joaquin utter class
</Speculation>

An even better speculation:

Joaquin is interested, Betis asks too much fee, and Rafa is using Simao in order Betis doesn't think we need him badly, thus not asking so much money  :eyebrow , that'd be a classic tactic.

we need joaquin or somebody else of his class (and at least a top class defense), or else to be the top in EPL or CL would only remain in dream

He better had be bluffing If he is adament playing this 4-5-1- system and not intending to buy class winger/s to play in this system then god help us all. Plus woolly is right RP has said we are going back in for Simao is January, probably a more realistic option to Joaquin anyway reguarding the price he will cost.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

simao and joaquin are completely different types of players. joaquin is far more direct and has superior pace and power. simao is versatile in that he can play on either flank or upfront. he's been benfica's top scorer for the last three seasons and also strikes a mean dead ball as we saw at old trafford last week.
