I hope rafa is bluffing

I agree that Joaquin is world-class, but I don't agree that we should blow the whole of our transfer kitty just to strengthen ONE position in the team. If we can get him for around £20m then fair enough. If we do decide to blow all this money, let's pray to god that Kewell pulls his finger out and starts matching the form that we know he is capable of.

Why would Rafa say "yes we are interested in signing him and his agent was at the game"? It would put speculation through the roof, alerting other clubs trying to either hijack the deal or increase the price.

He could be telling the honest truth, but if we are in fact interested, we aren't going to let anybody know, especially the press.

Even so, it would be unlike Benitez to say something so definitely and not stick to it.

Joaquin has been our long targeted player and i can see Rafa is bluffing.

If we can sell cisse and kewell with a 15m sum, then we can make it real. :;):

there is not many top quality rw in the world and he is spanish to boot. rafa is bluffing. he is trying to lower down the price.

If hes bluffing i think hes making a mistake, he did this at the end of the last transfer window, when he would not commit to wanting anybody! and in the end nobody signed, why does he not just come out and say who he wants and how much he will pay, but not a penny more, the ball is in their court then and no one is in any doubt.

ie look at Owen, either we wanted him or not, and we knew what we were prepared to pay, and thats it, cant blame him for panicking and choosing someone else or all the others that we apparantly were not interested in because we were scared they would put up the price! it a sellers market at the moment but no one forces us to pay over the odds we pay it or we dont! Our transfer policy has to be sorted out or we can look forward to more Zendens and Crouches being our big signings from now on.  :veryangry

Because somebody will come in and pay that extra 'penny' that we are not willing to. Simple economics really!!!

My 1st choice would be joaquin too.... But guess rafa has to buy few more quality players...thus the reason why simao is in the picture.....

That's not his way, it would be far too inviting for RM, Chelsea or whoever else is watching the move.
What Rafa tells the press he might not tell Betis, I'm sure if he wants the player he will try to talk to Betis and the players agent, and not the press.

Maybe i am a bit slow or have a short memory but when or who was the last player we signed were we publicly stated we wanted him ?
I know it has not happened under Rafa, not many clubs work that way.
This thread has provoked alot of reaction due to the statement but imo its pointless, Rafa would love Joaquin at Anfield and he is just doing his usual denying act that he does when asked about any player.
