Jails Watchdog Bans St George Tiepins

Prison officers wearing St George's Cross tiepins have been ticked off by the jails watchdog.

The English national flag could be "misinterpreted" as a racist symbol, the Chief Inspector of Prisons, Anne Owers, said in a report on Wakefield prison.

The pins had been bought by officers at the top security jail to support a cancer charity.

A section on race relations in Ms Owers' report said: "We were concerned to see a number of staff wearing a flag of St George tiepin.

"While we were told that these had been bought in support of a cancer charity, there was clear scope for misinterpretation a

What a load of bollox.Another instance of political correctness gone mad.I dont know of any other country in the World,that would reprimand people for waring there national emblem/flag.

If this had been a jail in Scotland and prison officers had been
waring the cross of St ANDREW would they have been reprimanded.I doubt it.What is wrong with these people they see racism in everything.

Jails watchdog my @rse,fuc.king do gooders.If these idiots did there job properley, and didnt let rapists out of prison to buy lottery tickets,Iwould be a lot happier

how can a representation of our national flag be racist to others. that is rediculous :angry:

i Fu*king hate what this country is fast becoming.

what about the human rights of everyone, and not just minorities.

the english flag is red/white, the union jack is red/white/blue.......thats it.

other countries have their own flags, and they dont not wear them for fear of insulting others, its their country, and others have their own countries, so wheres the problem??

if folk wanna live hear, they must realise we are not gonna change our flag to accomodate them, they should change to accomodate us. After all they wanna live here, we didnt ask them to come, or am i being racist??

perhaps i shouldda said, when the flag is used in the country of origin

anyway hawky ive worked in NI, and i find the folk ok. We cant change what happenend in the past with NI, but can move on from it.

anyway, back on topic Britain (and England in particular) is one of the most multicultural, open-minded places on the planet so why shouldn't the English flag represent that very muticulturalism? Anyone who suggests that the flag might be seen as a racist symbol is as f*ckin deluded as the 1 in a million mongs who actually DO see it as racist :angry:
