Cissé better than owen? - What do you think?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

they are a similar age so I don't know why people are talking about cisse as a young prodigee, also when people talk about Cisse scoring 6 goals this season, its league goals that count not pub teams in euro qualifiers/worthless supercups.

Remember Dean Saunders scoring a lot of goals in a season but only about 7 in the league (he was great against hungarian refugees in Uefa cup).

That said - give Cisse a chance, I think he is more likely than Morientes (who seems lazy) to be a success.

A bit worrying that our three strikers are all unproven in the premiership (crouch had six good months, thats form, not class)

Like a certain great man called Kenny once said :

" All goals are good goals !"

Sorry, but when Owen was Cissé's age (only a year ago) Owen was already a WORLD beater and showed this for our club and on the world stage in the national team.

The comparison is ridiculous, sorry, Owen is 100 times better....More composed, natural accurate finisher, scores when it really matters on any stage under any amount of pressure....

As much as I like him, Cisse isn't in Owen's league.

Owen is a year older and has proven himself to be world class in two different leagues. He has a much better eye for goal, and his positioning is perfect.

What i will say for Cisse, is if the kid works on his finishing, he has the potential to become a very good player, but nowhere near Owens ability.

Owen aged 19 reminds me of Cisse aged 24.

All great goalscorers are "naturals" and I bet that Owen never thought of where the ball was going, it just went ! more often than not into the net. Its a matter of timing when to hit the ball, how far off the line is the GK ?, how much of the goal can he cover ?, where's the nearest defender ?, none of this goes through a goal scorers mind , it just happens.
Cisse is very quick, not as quick as a young Owen, but quick what he lacks is the natural ability to let the shot go. I still don't think that Benitez would have bought him if the choice had been his but he's got him now and he'd never get his money back so he's staying.
It is obvious that the Valencia gameplan is coming and there was no "lone gunman" in that side but a front man who could set up on-running players from anywhere in the side. That is what made them so difficult to defend against.
The lad's attitude is superb but he's going to have to change his style to be an important member of the side. Owen is and always will be the better player but he's a "head and heart" job. My heart wanted him back but my head couldn't see him fitting in. I'd like to see him do well at Newcastle, but not at our expense, but there's still the feeling that it was the wrong move for him, they are a :censored: side who will play out of their skins for a while now but still fail under Souness.
All in all I'm more than happy with our position, we won't win the title this season but the momentum is building up and in the end NO ONE will be able to stop us.
Go watch the reserves,go to The Academy and you will see that Raffa has made a big difference in the right way. The attitude is better now than ever and there are fewer Flash Harry's.

Obviously Cisse is lightning, but methinks he sometimes looks slower as there is a difference between running with the ball and running without the ball. His touch isn't the best, so it appears to slow him down a bit. :(

He's also not what I'd call a "natural finisher". This season has been evidence of this, despite the goals he has scored.

Discussion is nil and void Owen is not here and Cisse is that's the diffrence. Cisse is a fantistic footballer although NOT the finished artical and has played around 39 games for lfc since he arrived before and after injury, how does anybody know if this season he will not outshine MO who we witnessed in the Prem since a tender age..... This topic is F'ckin unfair  :no

Why do you all go on about Cisse/Owen, after the strikers liverpool have had in the past you should be wondering why the european champions have not attracted the likes of baptista, shevchenko, henry etc. i know the recent league form has been quite bad but surely just the name LFC should have players banging at your door. Thats tough to say as a manc
