Feck me, I know he's a good guy and a top moderator but sticking him up front against CSKA seems like a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to me. Can't think it'd do much for the other strikers confidence "You're all on the bench today lads. I'm gonna go with this lad from Middleborough. Never seen him play but he's the top fella on the forum and talks as good a game as anyone". Baros would be apoplectic. Sorry, not a good plan.

Liverpool are ready to hijack Cicinho's 7 million transfer to Manchester United.

The Sao Paulo full-back, dubbed the new Cafu, met United boss Sir Alex Ferguson last week for talks over a move to Old Trafford.

But Cicinho, who is awaiting an Italian passport to speed up the deal, says Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has made a last-ditch move for him.

Cicinho said: "Manchester United are a great club that challenges for trophies but I have also heard Liverpool are now interested. It's a matter for my agents."

I hope that rafa aint buying him to fill our right wing position as he is an attacking full back riise type of player and not a  winger and wouldn't do a proper job there. The ony advantage i can think of is if we do get him and play him on the wing then we should be fairly solid defensively down the right flank as he is actually a fullback.

So is this rumour true or what that St Mike is gettin his boots out for the CSKA game! He cant do worse than Nando, in fact we might as well throw CGGY up there as well!!! On a serious note i hope the rumours about Cininho are true anyone who watched the confedirations cup in the summer will know how good this lad is he can play both right back and on the wing and was the player of the tournament in the confederations cup, what  buy he will be, the answer to all my prayers if he comes.

BENITEZ READY FOR A £4.5M AGGER DO
Exclusive By Alan Nixon
LIVERPOOL boss Rafa Benitez has made a £4.5million bid for promising Danish centre-half Daniel Agger.

Benitez hopes to tie down a deal for the 20-year-old Brondby defender this week as he closes in on the young player to cover for Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia.

Agger impressed against England and Wayne Rooney (right) last week in the shock 4-1 thumping but Liverpool have been on his trail for weeks. Brondby are looking for £6m for Agger, who was also watched by Everton and Wigan during the close season.

Benitez is trying to force down the fee but may have to offer more which is why he is counting the pennies in his other moves for a right winger and a possible Michael Owen swoop.

Liverpool will probably have to sell Milan Baros to finance the Agger swoop, but Benitez is convinced that the young Dane is the right man to groom for the future.

Carragher has been outstanding but is expected to play every week while Hyypia needed to be rested during the last campaign. Since then, Mauricio Pellegrino and Stephane Henchoz have left.

Benitez eyes up swoop for duo Aug 22 2005

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL are planning a swoop on the Bundesliga in their bid for central defensive cover.

Rafa Benitez is eyeing Portuguese international Fernando Meira from Stuttgart and highly rated German teenager Lukas Sinkiewicz, from Cologne.

Both may be available for bargain prices in the region of £2m.

Meira is the more established of the pair. The 27-year-old has 19 caps for Portugal and moved to Germany after a spell at Benfica.

Sinkiewicz is an up-andcoming German defender who has featured for their Under-21 side. Only 19, he's tipped to become a star of the future, but has only two years left on his current deal.

The duo are understood to be top of Benitez's wanted list as he seeks more recruits ahead of the transfer deadline.

We aint made a bid for him A.B

Skyports

Brondby have dismissed reports that Liverpool have made a bid for defensive starlet Daniel Agger.

The 20-year-old impressed many observers last week when he figured in Denmark's 4-1 humbling of England in Copenhagen.

His performance prompted suggestions that Liverpool had stepped up their hunt for a new centre half by lodging a £4.5 million bid for Agger.

But Brondby have revealed that The Reds have not even enquired about the youngster, let alone submitted an offer.

"It's wrong," Brondby director Per Bjerregaard told Ritzau about reports of a Liverpool bid.

"They haven't even enquired about him. The story has been taken out of thin air.

"It's a typical example of a paper not having something serious but wanting to be able to ask questions."

Liverpool are not the only Premiership club to be keen on Agger, with local rivals Everton and Wigan Athletic also tracking the stopper's progress.

Brondby coach Michael Laudrup is hoping Agger will stay with the club for another two years but reports in Denmark claim that a £5 million offer will tempt a sale

Aston Villa manager David O'Leary will not stand in the way of Nolberto Solano if the Peruvian international winger tells him he wants to leave Villa Park.

Solano has been linked with a move to Liverpool as a makeweight in the Milan Baros deal and the former Newcastle United ace hinted last week a switch to Anfield would be appealing.

O'Leary has insisted he has had no contact from Liverpool but admits Solano has been to see him to discuss the speculation over his future.

O'Leary said: "I will never keep someone, at any club I am at, who wants to leave the club. That is the bottom line.

"I signed Nobby Solano and I think for the price we paid I could not believe we did not have any more opposition for him.

"But I will never keep anyone who wants to leave. The player came to see me and I told him the same I as am telling you, no-one from Liverpool has made contact with me about it and Nobby was fine.

"I have heard rumours and everything else and I don't know where the rumour has come from.

"But Nobby has seen the headlines and he has asked about it. But no-one has made an offer to me about it.

"There are rumours every day in football and we worry about other things than that."

Solano, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was on the bench against Manchester United last weekend.

But O'Leary added: "He will start against Portsmouth tomorrow night."
