As you know, Turkey have struggled with lots of judgements, laws, votings, referandums etc. for years and been finally given a date for the consultations (first or second half of 2005) by EU. Of course it doesnt mean that TR is accepted for EU as the 26th member but its clear TR is on the road to EU anymore.

Because there are lots of different views about Turkey, nobody in TR or Europe knows anything about the result of this process.

At this point, i wonder the opinions of the forum users. What should happen at the end of this way?..

Your asking the wrong person really. If you basically become part of the EU and that opens doors for free trade etc etc....then fair enough. As for the european constitution, the Euro and all that,i,m of the opinion that i,m British and would not like any other country telling me rules i have to live and work by,setting interest rates and changing the currency.
The thought of someone in Germany or France etc having control over my life does not sit very nice with me.My grandparents fought for Great Britain  in two world wars so we could make our own choices.

i thought the European Community ( EC ) was a good idea ,it's prime objective being the promotion of trade between member states .
I think the European Union (EU ) is a bad idea ,it's prime objective seems to be the political unification of europe . I prefer my own country (England) to retain complete soveriegnty overs it's own affairs .

I say no to Turkey ,but I also say no to all the other countries in the EU .

if your teams play football under the banner of europe i certainly cant see a reason why you cant trade and live under the same banner. turkey would have to clean its human rights act up though.

Thats exactly what i ws thinking too. Whoever said that turkey is technically in 'Africa' is wrong!! If anything it would be classed as part of Asia. But they play within UEFA, so are obviously considered as 'European', so I dont see a real problem, as long as certain internal matters are resolved first. Apart from that, no reason why Turkiye should not be allowed to join.

But as most here, I dont like the idea of a European super state and one government (as is the long term plan!) but free trade is a great benefit of the scheme!!!

Is this is a dangerous way of thinking, or is this very good? It seems that sports(in this case football) are breaking down barriers as appose to creating them(Olympics-Moscow etc). My concern with Turkey is the radical muslim element that must surely have a greater populus in a muslim state, ipso facto. If this were the case, then these types could seek easier sanctuary within the 'union', however a muslim state within the borders(Spain once upon a time?) may lend a more sympathetic climate.
I really dont know and was asked for my view, I think that is it.
Will Australia become a colony of China one day LIVERPOOLANYTIME ? interesting  :kungfu:

Not that I agree with this idea, but with the current worries about terrorism would the politicians not be worried about Turkey's proximity to the middle-east? They could use Turkey as a back-door into Europe.

Another problem is the currency is it not? The Turkish Lira is a very weak currency, and also I am sure the Germans etc woudl not be happy about the prospect of more Eastern Europeans being able to come in and take more jobs off Germans (although the idea of free movement of labour is an aim of the EU), and with the unemployment rate in Germany being quite high at this time, I am sure the Germans woudl be opposed to it (especially if you consider the high Turkish population in Germany already)

As I said I am not necessarily in agrement with these ideas, but I am sure they would be taken into consideration before Turkey would be let into the EU.

On another note, a country which Liverpool won the European Cup in, in such dramatic circumstances, is ok by me! :D

Any Country wanting to join the EU must be mad. The fact is that I am disgusted with the EU, and the fact that unelected :censored: politicions (Kinnock, for e.g.) are setting stupid laws as if they are going out of fashion. I emplore anyone who thinks "hmm...I wish MY Country was a member of the EU" to look at the facts and the constitution. Not only have these lunatics introduced such laws as the one stating how much a banana is allowed to curve, and the size a tomato must be, they also want to relinquish all border controls, and allow everyone who resides in a member state totally unrestricted access to other countries. (Or in other words;allow all the poor countries spongers to live the high-life in GB).
       Obviously this is wrong, but if you think thats bad, wait until you hear this;
As a fully assimilated member of the EU, all foreign policy, defence policy and home affairs would be controlled by the benders in Brussels. This means that we would have no army, and no way of defending ourselves in the event of a war with another EU member. (There would be a "U.S.E" army, but this would consist of representatives of all the members.)

The European Union is a bad egg, and I for one will emigrate should sovreignity be surrendered to anyone, especially the Germans.
