when you next see him collapse in a heap on the floor screaming to take you to hospital quickly! either that or just tell him your bent and up for it, fancy a quicky in a layby.

:D

you could arrange a test drive from your local dealer!

McLaren F1 Roadster. :D

I'd like an Audi TT, and the bloke next door has an A8 Quattro.

Had no interest in cars 6 months ago, now I'm hooked on Clarkson. :D

I am Judge, handy little car, nothing special, although it came with far more extra bits and bobs than my girlfriends new Golf Sport 1.6 which cost a couple of grand extra.

Since getting it I have passed my test and my insurance has come down and I'm keen on getting something meatier, preferably something with a two litre engine.

I like TTs but they are extremely expensive new here in Ireland as we have to pay Vehicle Registration taxes on new cars, which pushes the price of them up by another 20%. For example, I bought my new Meganne Sport 1.4 for €19,500 (2 grand off the list price) in March, and that was as good a deal as I could get at the time. In May I was in holiday in Italy and there was an act on tv for a new Meganne Dynamique (its got alloy wheels and a few other extras) but with a 1.6 litre engine and it was going for €15,000!!!

A new TT would set me back around €40,000 to €45,000 which is crazy......I cannot afford it in any event.

I'll hold on to my trusty 1.4 for another year or two before upgrading.

well well, you learn something new every day, i never knew jbg was residing in ireland (dom resides there too  :D )

jbg 2 litre engines in small(ish) cars are fun but believe me you will cry every time you a) go to the petrol station and b) watch the tank visibly empty every time you floor it

petrol's now 90p a litre so my next car is going to be a bike :D

jbg, if youve just passed your test, then perhaps a 2 litre would be too much, try a 1.8 for size. Voltswagon do great ranges at 1.8 and some are quite affordable, however, vauxhall may offer more value for money...up to you.

woolly's right, if you buy powerful, then buy a car with size to match the engine

all the best

Vauxhalls are called Opels in Ireland. :D

I like the new Vectra and the new Astra is ok, although I have had a bad experience with Astras in the past as one of 'em died on my girlfriend.

I think Paul C once said Zara had a BMW X5. :O  Nice machine (at least to look at) but I've never been for a drive in one.

oh yes opels  :D

you can get an astra club for around 9 grand or less, depending on the deal (you will have to do the conversion from pounds to euros). the astra is so much better nowadays.

if the astra died on your girlfriend then she'd either forgot to fill it up, or check the oil and it seized - typical women then, lol.

the X5 is a good drive, but the X3 is a far better ride. if your into that kind of vehicle then the nissan x-trail is total value for money, or you could try a toyota RAV4, but can be overpriced.

my mate works for benfield ford in leeds, and i recently test drove the new mondeo and focus.
i know fords arent everyones cup of tea, but these cars were excellent on the road, fast etc, plus they are so affordable right now.

the choice is yours

My dad has an old Mondeo, or the ones that came out in 2000/2001. I haven't seen the "new" Mondeo much. Its a nice car to drive, even if I have trouble fitting into one, as some reason the seats don't go very far back. He had a diesel and its quite loud.

The old Focus are ten a penny and are a great car, if a little underpowered in the 1.4 category (which is what most people have). I had a test drive in the new Focus and it is a good car, nice drive, holds the road well, particularly at roundabouts where you can get the "leaning" effect in some other cars of the same size, but my problem with is is that I think its simply a hideous looking thing. My girlfriend was interested in buying one, but in the end both of us thought it was too ugly (so why is she going out with me then? :D ).

We also test drove the new C4 and its also a nice car to drive, and its 1.4 engine definitely had more power in it than similar 1.4 cars. However, the dash is ugly and has a rubbish computer display.

She ended up buying a new Golf Sport 1.6 which is a nice car, although VW give you absolutely nothing in the way of extras for your money.

She actually knows a lot about cars and I don't know why her old Astra died on her.
