Adios antonio - Nunez off to vigo

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Ace1983 » Sat Jul 23, 2005 12:08 pm

Skysports are reporting that Celta Vigo are close to landing Antonio Nunez who has been hankering for a return to La LIg since he joined Liverpool in the deal that saw Michael Owen go to Real Madrid.
Considered a hot prospect by both Real and Rafa, I'm slightly dissapointed to see him go. He was poor last season and no where near the quality we should be looking for, but he did have potential. But, I suppose, now is not the time to hang on to possibles as we look for class to help get, at least, 4th spot next season.

How much is he going for?

Not a clue, hope we do get a fee for him though.  We seemed to get robbed blind everytime we sell a player

If it's anything, it won't be much more than £1m I reckon. I can't remember seeing a price quoted.

good to see Rafa admiting the guy isn't good enough and is getting rid.  Under Houllier, we probably would see him here for another 4 years!

More importantly, will Liverpool get a good transfer (even after considering how poorly he turned out to be for us) from his departure?

Good luck to Antonio, it was always going to be hard for him after getting injured straight away, what with coming to a country and playing in a faster paced league.  By the time he was fit the team was pretty much picking itself and although we were struggling in positions, midfield wasn't one of them.  At least Rafa has admitted he's not good enough and let him go rather than keep him for 4 years and have him play reserve football all the time.

Good luck lad, now we need a natural right winger who can provide quality crosses for Crouch, Nando and Cisse :)

Good luck to him. I think we'll get 2 million tops for him.

It is obvious Rafa is going to target another quality right back using part of his remaining budget, which is rather bare at the moment I would say.
