Swp - Why dont we swap

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 112-1077774096 » Wed Jun 29, 2005 10:54 am

i am a big admirer of SWP and i think he is a player that would look great in the red shirt, in fact no liverpool player has excited me for years in the way that barnes and fowler used to do. i know that SWP would have me on the edge of my seat every game.

i also know that we dont have too much money to spend but we do have a lot of players on salaries that we dont want to pay as the players are mediocre at best. but man city also are strapped for cash but do need to buy players.

i wonder why we havent approached man city for a swap deal where we can offload some squad players (lowering our wages) and take on SWP. we are leeting too many players leave on free's even though they still have contract when we could be utilising them. i am sure city would have liked smicer, biscan, kirkland or dudek, traore etc to build a decent squad for them, the only stumbling block may be the wages they would have to pay.

any thoughts guys (that dont involve natalie portman)

What's nat portman got to do with it???

One major obstacle for swapping maybe the players themselves. Who really would want to leave the European Champions to go to a team that after LFC got through to CL asked the FA to resubmit the UEFA Cup list with them on it?

Several reasons why not:

SWP won't sign for us anyway, he'll prefer chelski or Arsenal IMO

Biscan and smicer were out of contract anyway so we couldn't have swapped them

Man City won't want squad players like traore/dudek

Traore/dudek etc won't want to go to man city

Man city won't accept anything but cash because of their debt as others have pointed out

SWP is definitely a quality player but who unfortunately will cost us almost all the money Rafa has in hands for transfers this season.

How much would City ask for SWP?

20 million maybe? ???

Owen though a great player (deffo on a par with Fowler and Barnes) can hardly be described as an exciting player IMO, Fowler and Barnes could do some absolutly extrodinary things with a football that really took your breath away.

This is all very much a mute point...Man City will not swap any players for SWP...plain and very simple. No other point is even relevant. If we want him we'll have to pay for him and pay big

I think I can see Peewee's point, Fowler and Barnes had something special, that pure natural ability they made it look easy...BUT and here is where I disagree with peewee...I do not see how you can say that Owen never did anything that took your breath away....did you miss the 2001 Fa Cup Final against Arsenal? His goal vs Argentina in the world cup...that didn;t take your breath away?

:censored: me, I must of been watching a different footballer!

Michael Owen was, and still is a pretty exciting footballer if you ask me. When he got on the ball near goal you expected him to do something special, and he often did, the FA Cup Final in 2001 is a perfect example.

His pace, good ball control and ability to beat players will always make him an exciting player IMO.
