Liverpool reap reward for success
Tuesday, 14 June 2005
UEFA is to distribute more than €415m to the 32 clubs who took part in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League from the group stage onwards.

English success
The teams receive payments in proportion to their progress in European club football's major competition. Champions League winners Liverpool FC receive €30.6m, while runners-up AC Milan collect €26m. English sides fared well in financial terms, Chelsea FC taking €28m and Arsenal FC €23m, on account of their high market pool share.

Fixed amounts
The distribution of the revenue generated by UEFA from television rights, sponsorship deals and new media contracts is split among the participating clubs according to fixed amounts including a starting bonus (€1.62m), a match bonus in group games (€324,000), a performance bonus in group matches (€324,000 per win, €162,000 per draw), a knockout round bonus (€1.62m), a quarter-final bonus (€1.95m), a semi-final bonus (€2.6m) and then €3.9m for the runner-up and €6.5m for the winner.

Total revenue
According to the 2004/05 regulations, 75 per cent of the total revenue received from TV and commercial contracts concluded by UEFA, up to a maximum of €520m, will go to the clubs, while the remaining 25 per cent is reserved for European football and remains with UEFA to cover organisational and administrative costs, as well as to make solidarity payments to associations, clubs and leagues.

New media
The regulations also specify that 82 per cent of any revenue received in excess of the €520m will go to the participating clubs, with the remaining 18 per cent allocated to UEFA for European football. In addition, 50 per cent of the revenue received from new media contracts concluded by UEFA will also be available for distribution to the clubs, and the remaining 50 per cent will be allocated to European football.

Market pool
Added to this is the market pool, which is distributed according to the proportional value of each TV market represented by the clubs taking part, and is split among the number of teams participating from a given association.

The distribution table is shown below

this from bbc covers it but in laymans :D

Champions League winners Liverpool have earned £20.5m from their European run to top the tournament's earnings table.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal made up three of the top four Champions League earners, with Manchester United in eighth place.

Chelsea secured £18.8m from television money and performance bonuses, Arsenal were fourth with £15.7m, while Manchester United picked up £10.9m.

Beaten finalists AC Milan were third with £17.5m and Celtic bagged £7m.

The figures do not include gate receipts, another area where English clubs outperform their European rivals.

1: Liverpool £20.5m (winners)
2. Chelsea £18.8m (last four)
3. AC Milan £17.5 (runners-up)
4. Arsenal £15.7m (last 16)
8. Man Utd £10m (last 16)
19. Celtic £7m (group stage)

Football consultant Alex Fynn told BBC Sport: "England is the richest TV pool - it has one of the largest markets in terms of population as well as the highest broadcasting fees because it has two broadcasters in Sky and ITV.

"Most other countries just have one broadcaster.

"That is why Chelsea, as semi-finalists, earned more than the beaten finalists AC Milan.

"The Champions League is absolutely vital to the English clubs.

"Liverpool would probably have earned as much from their European run as they would have from their Premiership broadcasting rights last season. It's a huge bonus for them."

Fynn, who has advised clubs and federations on media and marketing, added that Liverpool would also be able to cash in on their Champions League qualifying games next season.

"They should be able to clear in the region of £1.5m for each of their three home games in the qualifying rounds from matchday and broadcast revenue.

"The only downside for them is the effort they've spent on ensuring they got into the tournament next season.

"That's time they haven't been able to devote to capitalising on their newfound status as European Champions."

Gate receipts would've been for 7 games (Grazer AK included).

let's say we sold an average of around 39 000 tickets per game, cos of aways fans plus some seats aren't used for CL games.

39 000 x 30 pounds a ticket, or a bit less on avearage probably, eqautes to just over £1 000 000 a game. Multiplied by 7 thats over £7 000 000 on top of the £20 500 000, not bad going at all.

Then you add merchandise sales associated with CL products, sponsorship deals etc, a massive payday has been made from this years campaign.
