Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

"There are, after all, two good reasons why places in the competition are offered as rewards for league form and nothing else: first, because league form is the only reliable measure of a side's worth; second, because if league form is the only criterion for entry, participating clubs cannot afford to concentrate on the Cup to the neglect of their domestic leagues."

I think they are valid points, as an indicator to achievement over a whole season the league is the best indicator and we didn't have a great season in that respect, I think the word's " a club's worth" are a little harshly chosen mind you...HOWEVER...the reason that we have to play in next seasons Champions league is that we are the Champons of that comeptition and we must defend the title.

Nice to meet you too.

I was hoping for some discussion on valid points about this. We'll all have to answer at some stage to various other fans etc.

Fair enough... we concentrated that hard on the CL that we actually won it and our league form suffered - THAT is the ONLY reason why the bluesh1te got 4th.

Let 'em have it... let's sit back and have a laugh at them next season.

I agree, but the case against us is fairly strong imo. UEFA need to introduce a wildcard for the winners next season (they really should have acted after Real Madrid a few seasons ago), however, it can be clearly argued that we entered the competition on this years rules.

we entered the comp under the FA rules from last year which stated that the European champions would be entered and the 4th place team replaced.  Either way, Ueffa have to let us in because their sponsors are going mental.

Fair point , I agree with you . However I also feel that the champions of any competition should be allowed to defend their title and I'm not saying that just because we won.   :D

If that's the case, why all the confusion?

the FA backed down and changed their stance...but as i've said, if Ueffa don't allow us in, expect to see the likes of Ford, Amstel and all the other sponsors kicking up a huge fuss.  We have won sponsorship contracts for next year with the Champions league sponsors with the title of 'European Champions'...the sponsors are going mental because they will be paying us milions and we won't be in the comp!  Do the maths, when you have them by the balls their heads will follow   :Oo:
