Only thing is, I told all the lads in the pub about Peter Crouch two weeks ago so now I'm gonna look like the all knowing sage of Wimbledon. I wanna tell 'em about this fecker aswell but I can't say his name.  :;):

Its pronounced as kite  :D

Yeah he is abit of an oddball Leon I'll give you that. Not a bad player though when all said and done. If we were going to take a 3 or 4 million chance on a British striker, then him, Earnshaw or Ashton wouldn't be bad speculative punts and thats not rhyming slang.
Johnson I guess would be a little more expensive but a gamble nontheless. I think it would be a mistake on balance to discount Crouch on the grounds that he'e too big. He would afterall provide an added bonus when defending set-pieces which would hopefully offset the undoubted damage to our aesthetic excellence (which others on here like CIGGY are better qualified than I to comment on I hasten to add) were he to sign.

I cant believe people have been reacting positively towards the idea of siging Peter Crouch. Hes just Heskey No2. Surely the scouts can come up with better than that!

Not sure about Crouch, he has had a good season in a struggling team, but that sometimes happens. He is decent in the air and got a good touch as well though and at the right price (not 5 million) would be a different option if we needed it.
I would take him at 3 million....as a squad player.

Apart from the fact that he plays in the same position as Heskey, I cannot for the life of me see a single similarity between the two. Heskeys game is based on raw pace and power, whereas Crouch's game seems to be based on a deftness of touch and on using his hieght to make himself a big target and then shielding the ball to bring others into play.
Crouch is certainly more prolific infront of goal, Heskey on the two or three times a season when he turns it on the more dynamic of the two. One's skinny, ones muscular. One's black, one's white.
No sorry mate, Heskey mark two? Can't see it myself. I can accept anybody not rating a player but to just compare him to somebody else who isn't similar just seems pointless.

apparently Real want Van nasel hair and red nose wants Owen.

He wouldnt go there would he ?

Let me get this one clear, you lot are starting to call to arms because the press has put two and two together to make five - again!

Show a modicum of common sense here, this is sensationalistic tabloid journalism at its worst. Only 2 players have played for LFC and MUFC in the past 40 years. One was Ince and the other, if memory serves me correctly was one Dave Hickson. So it's hardly the most common occurence is it? I wonder why???

Having said that, I am still 99.9% convinced that Owen will be back in England next season, most probably at Chelsea or Arsenal.

People are being a bit harsh on Crouch. I actually think he would be a decent signings for 3-4MIl as a backup striker.

He is perfect for the Rafa system. He is no Heskey. Like Sven said he is very tall and awkward, but he has a very neat touch. What is good about him is that he can play with his back to goal and bring other players into play, I didn’t notice this until this season. And he has been getting the goals fro Southampton. As a backup striker, I definitely think he will be worth getting for a few million, maybe we could shift some of our players of to Southampton.

Cisse, Morinetes, Crouch and Garcia, not a bad 4, nice variation.

This has probably been said before, but I think that Rafa will probably go Spanish for most if not all of his new signings. He knows the market, he has the respect of the players and he seems to have 1st pick if the players want to leave Spain.

Plenty of good pickings it seems. Rafa won't be as dumb as Houllier. Houllier was a big giant ar$e.
Mourinho was customizing his flashy blue racing car -- applying the finishing touches of go-faster stripes, aerodynamic spoilers and a fat f@ck you exhaust -- while on his red car, Benitez was trying to glue together a broken chassis, repair bodywork and replace burst tyres.

what do the following players have in common?

peter crouch
kevin phillips
james beattie
andy johnson

answer. they've all had one exceptional season and suddenly they're the best thing since sliced bread. ok crouch has done well, but to suggest that he's suddenly good enough for us is ludicrous.

The thing about Crouch is you wouldn’t expect him to get 20 goals a season, the other players are solely goal scorers. He is the sort of 'target man' that Rafa likes, he is able to play with his back to goal and is good on the ball.

Now I'm not saying that Crouch is a great player, but we need a striker to provide backup to Cisse and Morientes, and buying British and buying from the Premiership is always the first port of call. If we get him for less than 5MIL he would be worth getting.

In all fairness lynds, Kuyt may well be prolific in dutch football but so was Kezman. Transferring that form into the Premiership is much easier said than done.

Bergkamp? Robben? Klivert in his day? Ruud? Van Persie? they are all great players kezmans not dutch Kuijt is. And I think we need 2 dutch players.
