Parry, fans must be on best behaviour.

Parry urges fans' restraint

Liverpool have warned their fans travelling to Turin to be on their best behaviour and act as "ambassadors" for the club.

Fears of trouble with Juventus fans looking for revenge following the Heysel disaster 20 years ago have been a worrying backdrop to Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg in the Stadio Delle Alpi.

And concerns have not been eased after Juventus fans turned their backs on Liverpool fans during last week's first leg at Anfield.

The Merseysiders had used the match to stage a choreographed apology for the deaths of 39 fans during the 1985 European Cup final in Brussels, an apology which was rejected by many of the visiting supporters.

Chief executive Rick Parry said: "We extended the hand of friendship and I hope that those who returned to Turin accepted that the 'amicizia' message was genuine and heartfelt.

"We understand that we could not expect a completely positive response from all the visiting Juventus supporters, but the behaviour of our fans on the night was exemplary.

"Wednesday's return leg will also be an emotional occasion and we are asking all our supporters who travel to Italy to behave with the same respect and responsibility they showed in Liverpool.

"Every Liverpool fan in Turin should remember they are an ambassador for the club."

He added: "There is a balance to be struck before the game itself in the city.

"They should show restraint and understand that singing and chanting and draping the city centre in red may be a taken as a lack of respect and an indication that we do not understand the feelings of our hosts.

"We should all recognise the particular circumstances surrounding this tie and avoid any behaviour which could be interpreted as provocative."

Fans have been warned to stay in groups and not to "stray off the beaten track". Italian police have also advised Liverpool fans not to wear their club colours and to stay in certain designated areas in the centre of Turin.

Liverpool expect to have 3,000 fans in Turin and they have been advised not to buy tickets for Juve sections of the stadium.

.. of course it goes without saying that whilst we can trust most "true" reds to behave.. there will always be those who are lookin for a punch-up and stand-off... disguised as LFC fans..

...Just hope the nastiness does not happen.. but the troublemakers are not usually fans of football .. rather hard cases congregating .. anywhere in Europe for a puch-up with the English..

i dont think we`ve got enough attack minded players fit to force them onto the back foot.
i reckon they`ll only be baros and garcia who`ll have a chance of scoring and i think they`ll both be starved of possession. maybe we`ll pinch one at a set piece or corner though.
i remember we played bayern munich in the semi`s and daglish went off, we all thought the game was up because they`d got a goalless draw at anfield and now at their place our best player went of injured after ten minutes. but we still managed a 1-1 draw and we went through on the away goal!!
no ray kennedy on our teamsheet this time though

Keep a low profile in Torino, this is my advice! Hopefully no one gets hurts, but don't answer to insults and threats.
Everyting will go just fine if you guys who are travelling stay cool.

And I won't be able to go to Torino myself as I have an exam this wek-end :(

I think the real potential for trouble is for reds fans outside the ground, particularly after the game on the way back to hotels/railway stations etc

Alcohol will be prohibited in all Torino, from 6 PM tomorow until the day after the game. The carabinieri will be on full alert, and your way out has been scheduled.
Truely, it seems that the autorities have a good plan to avoid problems.

I think the main problem may be for our fans on the coaches going to and from the stadium pelted with everything at the windows, and during the game pelted with coins, lighters etc etc...............

there will be some Liverpool fans who will be like Im not standing for that, the younger inexperienced ones who may retaliate.
Last week in liverpool when 30 or so Juve fans wanted a kick off down by the albert dock some of our fans turned and ran away.
But this is not the mentality noway will any scouser be intimidated in there own city.
If circumstances where diffrent e.g. no Heysel I bet your bottom dollar the juve fans wouldnt have been to quick to be doing that. Some of the lads I know would have put them in hospital for doing that.

But good on the lads that turned there backs and walked away you have to give them credit.
