Its offical - Gerrard not playing against juve

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 7_Kewell » Mon Apr 11, 2005 1:51 pm

Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Juventus because of a groin injury.
Liverpool captain Gerrard suffered the problem in the closing stages of the 1-0 defeat against Manchester City and did not travel with the squad to Turin.

Gerrard received treatment from Liverpool's medical staff on Sunday, but has failed to recover.

Liverpool may now give fit-again Xabi Alonso his first game since 1 January.

Juventus struggled to cope with Gerrard in Liverpool's 2-1 first-leg win, eventually man-marking the England star, and his absence is a bitter blow for Wednesday's clash.

Manager Rafael Benitez must now ponder a massive gamble with Alonso having played only 45 minutes of reserve team football since breaking his ankle against Chelsea on 1 January

The major dilema when you got massive injured players like today is that the gaffer is having difficulties to decide whether to buy additional players or not. Buying some players means breaking up your bank while the team will be getting too bulky just when they are recovered. But leaving it as it is will cause a massive crisis.

At least now, when we win, we won't have all the "one man team" "gerrard rescues pool" etc ****** that we normally have.

We'll still do them. :)

It'll be a hard fight but it will be closer than a lot of idiot journalists think it will be.  We wont be a pushover.

Nedved injured his back in Juve's weekend draw with Fiorentina so hopefully they will be missing their key man also but he is just a doubt.

All we need now is Carson to pick up an injury as well.

I always rated Patrice Luzi.  :D

Luzi :D

even GH didn't trust him. Remember when Dudek and Kirkland got injured so GH got Paul Jones for a month instead of giving poor old Patrice a chance.

Its bad news!

hope LFC dont hang on for 90 mins.

Our best bet judging by previous rounds is to go and attack early, get 1 or 2 goals, then sit back and defend.

The reds have had a tendancy to play well in the first half, then tire in the second.

my team would be:

             Dudek

Finnan Carra Hypia  Traore

Nunez  Smicer  Alonso   Risse

             garcia
             Baros

But i think rafa will play...

            CArson

Finnan Carra Hypia  traore

Garcia  Biscuit  Alonso  Risse

           Le tallec  Baros
