3 defenders? Isn't that too much. 3 strikers? Ain't that too few? Why not just play 2 defenders and 4 strikers?

Well, that would be...courageous.
5 players there would offer very little defensive options.
Gerrard, Alonso and Riise are quite attack minded too.

I'd go with a boring 442

But if kewell was playing at his best along with baros i wouldnt leave them out of the team .

I'm a big fan of Chelsea/ several other sides style of play in that they have one holding midfielder who protects and covers for the back four. At his best and with his experience Hamman is best at this, tall mobile and strong and never gives the ball away, plus very intelegent.

It would allow Gerard and Alonso to be more free and enjoy what they do best, plus give us exciting width and pace with (at their best) Kewell and Cisse hugging the flanks, switching sides and running at people. With Finnan and Riise (the best attacking full backs in the league) we actually dont need to sign anyone in the summer and with a fully fit sqaud have the best team on paper with this side;
