Garcia on life in Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Love the way he says about a pint (incredible) :D
And they cant have a siesta here :sleepy:  maybe thats the problem cause when we play sometimes in the afternoon they are all used to havin a kip :D .

Liverpool newboy Luis Garcia has been speaking about life at Anfield.

The former Barcelona ace admits he needs to adapt to play better in the Premiership but he says he's enjoying life at Anfield and he's coming to terms with the way Liverpool lives.

Garcia said: "In England there are some terrifying tackles. Sometimes the ref doesn't even give a foul, let alone a card. Physically I'm hardly built to go flying in hard, am I? English players, and players who've been in England for a long time are very strong. I have to get used to it as quickly as possible.

"It might be harder in England but it's not rugby, it's still football. And I like the fact that football in England is continuous: the game doesn't stop, the passion is always high, there are fewer lulls in the atmosphere and the fans are really up for it. They really enjoy themselves all game long. They cheer you on and sing even at throw-ins and corners. When you go over to take a corner, and the whole stand gets to its feet to roar you on, it's fantastic.

"At first the weather, the different timetables and the food were a bit difficult. Eating at seven or eight, shops shutting at five, that's quite a big difference. In Spain the shops are open until nine. Here there's no siesta in the middle of the day - we go for a walk instead - but you mix the two lifestyles up a bt and you get used to it so much that everything feels normal fairly soon. By 10pm, with training and everything else, I feel like going to bed anyway, especially as I have a new baby boy.

"There are quite a few restaurants - Spanish, Japanese, all sorts, so there are no problems and I'm getting into drinking tea! I don't drink so I wouldn't have a pint but they're pretty big, half a litre almost. Incredible."

Asked if he and his Spanish team-mates spend much time together, Garcia replied: "Yeah, we all went round to Antonio Nunez's house for the Barcelona-Real Madrid game. Because he played for Madrid and I was at Barcelona, we were all winding him up when they lost heh heh."

Also hes had the most shots on goal out of any player with 51, and he has commited more fouls than anyone else in the team.

great post cisse
showing that garcia is only human, and which he is keen to follow in the footsteps of alonso on form. Sounds to me like hes going to be set to showing some real improvement in form in the comming months.

We sometimes forget that although Liverpool can be a bit shabby and a bit rough around the edges it's still a great city. So what if it hasn't got the shopping of Milan or the culture of Paris or the cosmopolitan-ness of London - it's still one of the great cities of the world and has got heart, character and uniqueness like nowhere else on earth :)  A lot of these foreign imports could really love the place :)

"i don't drink"

Height of professionalism that kids. He'll come good eventually, he shown his ability in his first few games but for gods sake he's not a wide player.

He'll definitely make the grade - he's class, no doubt about it - he'll just need more time to adjust to the premiership than some others and in Rafa he's got the man to help coach him through the transition

At least he's sounding positive. I know he's still settling into English life, but once he has, we're going to have a unique and special player with an eye for goal.

I think his slight frame and the fact that in every interview he mentions the heavy tackling, is why he often over complicates the situation with the little flicks and heals. He is ovoiding the tackle. Trouble is "adapting to the English game" basically means "bulking up" (and hense slowing down).

I would rather see less heavy tackling and more high skill from players. Passion is not an excuse for thuggery. I do not think that these high skill players should adapt to English football. I think English football should adapt to high skill players.
