Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dalglish » Fri Jan 07, 2005 2:12 am

I don't want to get drawn into the age thing. Except to say many on here were not probably around to see the truly great Liverpool sides but are here today BECAUSE we were so successful.

LFC for example is only a young lad but knows his stuff, past and present.

Greatness is an overused word i agree but your right, i'm lucky enough to remember andhave the privalege of seeing some truly grat liverpool sides.....

Raven    Whitbread      Carra       Traore

Nunez      Biscan         Welsh       Garcia/Warnock

                 Mellor/Pongolle     Baros

I think that is the sort of side we should field.

I heard on skysports that Baros is out of the game i would like to see Partridge in place of Nunez after him bein struggling with injury for 2 years. I don't think Burnley will impose a big threat as people think they just lost there star strike Robbie blake to Birmingham  :)

perhaps Pellegrino will make his debut as well.

ifbAros is still not 100% then I doubt Rafa will risk him againt Burnley.

mate I am only 18, so is it my fault I am too young to have seen the great Liverpool sides? I think not.

But i understand where you are coming from, as it is frustarting to have been the best in Europe for man years and see the comparitive struggle that has occurred over the last decade.

it's frustrating to see these people rate igor bisan so highly. it makes me feel the young supporters today are willing to settle for mediocrity.!! :(  :(

the problem is they (and i have to include myself) have really only seen mediocrity. I want to see Liverpool top of England and Europe once again, but realise it will take time, hopefully Rafa will be the man for that job. :)

Houllier played Biscan in every position but his natural position, I don't see how Houllier could call Biscan the next Zidane and then play him as a defender, a position which is not good at. Yes there are players who played in various positions but not all players can do that.

Biscan never played more than four or five games in his natural position under Houllier. In every game he's played this season he has been solid.

I would give Biscan one last shot.

A.B. I thought the next Zidane was suppose to be Cheyrou.... :p

Anyway, I think the reason why Diao was playing more recently is because of couple reasons.
1. Injury to other players
2. Rafa thought Biscan will be gone and did't want to risk him being injured. So, Diao played instead and if he gets injured, no harm done but if Diao played well enough, someone may want him. This is a win win situation for Rafa.

I'm sure with the current situation, Biscan will play more from now on unless we get Aimar or other midfielders.

I don't agree that he's just a squad player. Biscan is world class - better than Gerrard or Alonso.

Biscan has done alright the last few games he's played

i agree, you need to think about liverpools first team and then think to yourself how many would get in the first team of say man utd, arsenal & chelsea.  i think gerrard alonso riise baros carragher morientes would get into the first teams, but aprt from that we have a lot of mediocre players, fair enough if biscan is having a good season under benitez, fact remains that he is p1sspoor.  thats why southampton have been linked to him
