Who would you want to play? Villa or Liverpool? Alonso turned down Real Madrid for us and I'm sure Morientes will turn down Everton,Villa and Newcastle. Afterall he did say that Benitez is a good manager and Liverpool a good club he could settle in.
Its possible other teams can outbid us on the fee, if stories of our money situation are true ofcourse. I doubt if any of them could get close on wages though. Liverpool do usually pay good wages and will certainly be closer to what Morientes is earning in Madrid. With this in mind and the fact that he wants a move to Liverpool we hold a strong position. If Madrid choose to be awkward on the fee they run the risk of having an unhappy player leaving for nothing on a Bosman at the end of his contract. Liverpool are testing their resolve so lets hope it works.
what say does a player have in the end? say, for example, villa offered 12m for him - way outside our price range - does he have the final say or can madrid just say 'forget it, lad, you're going there.'?
Get up! everybody's gonna move their feet Get Down! everybody's gonna leave their seat
Well I am not sure but since he has 18 months on his contract he still has the option of wanting to go to the club he wants. I mean Real Madrid can't make him sign a contract with a club now can they?
... his is the last say so.. often clubs agree a fee and the player is then given permission to agree personal terms.. if Morientes only wants to join us (pleeze let it be true) then he'll stay at Madrid.. if they don't agree to our fee of course...
True .. in the summer with a year or less on his contract no-one will play more than what they can get for him now even if that is £5 mill... besides I think Real owe us after Owen
its up to the player, if he doesnt want to join a club he doesnt have to. of course he could sit on his contract and choose to go where he wants after it expires but clubs usually start to make life difficult for players if they adopt this stance e.g make them train with the kids etc.(remember the paul stewart, julian dicks carry ons) this situation is in no ones interest so usually the players go to the clubs they want to which if you believe the reports puts us in a strong position. madrid dont want a gloomy morientes moping around their squad blaming the management for putting the blocks on his dream move. the danger for liverpool is if one of the clubs who have bidded more can convince morry that their club will be a good move for him personally. i`m more concered about monaco than the other prem teams. they aren`t the greatest after selling their best players post champions league final but he did like it there, knows the layout and backroom staff and of course the place offers a fantastic lifestyle, its a millionaires playground.
You Can Shoot All The Blue Jays You Want To But Its A Sin To Kill A Mocking Bird
I think Madrid have no other choice really. Morientes won't be happy if he goes to a club he doesn't want to play for and he sure as hell won't be happy if he stays at Madrid and doesn't play. Madrid owe us and Morientes for all that he has done for them.
