Morientez - On his way

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby kenco » Fri Dec 24, 2004 5:26 pm

Fernando Morientez has told Real Madrid he has no interest in joining Newcastle, leaving the way clear for Liverpool to complete a £5m deal during the transfer window.
Rafa Benitez is confident Morientez determination to join the Reds can seal the transfer.
But the Anfield boss has warned his patience has a limit, and he won't pay over the odds to bring his prime target to merseyside.
Newcastle have muddied the waters since Liverpool's £3.5m bid was lodged by declaring thier interest in the 28 year old.
However, Morientez has rejected the idea of a move to the North East andthe player has told Madrid officials he only wants an agreement reached with Benitez.

if he costs more the 4m with wages more than 40k per week, I'd rather not have him. I'd rather anelka. Remember, moro is 28 years old....

A nice piece of business. And there I was thinking pre season that Real Madrid had shafted us over Owen.

They get Owen, we get Nunez and Morientes and pocket 3m. Not a bad deal, although if Owen hadnt played games over wanting to re-sign with us, we'd be another 10m up.

I think Morientes will partner well with Baros. Anelka is too similar in style to Cisse.

Strikers nowadays reach their prime between 28-32. I would say he would give us (especially the attackers) experience and wisdom and he is at his peak. If we can get him, it is a "No brainer".

the bit i forgot to put in my lovely story called 'spanish reflections' is that the spanish guys were going

' you HAVE to get morientes - you HAVE to!' and then made loads of noises and waved there arms about, stuck their thumbs up etc etc...

they really really rate him over here.

We haven't signed him yet. If the bidding war gets out of hand then we could loose out. There's not many first class strikers for sale this January. I would love to see him at LFC, he is a class player but I'll wait to hear we've definitely signed him before I get excited.

I think Everton and Arsenal are not going for Morientes. Everton are going for cheaper players as they don't have the money and Arsenal? Wenger said he won't be buying any players in the Transfer window, as he thinks its a waste of time.
