Didi follows gerrard

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Thu Dec 23, 2004 2:36 pm

Dietmar Hamann has followed the lead of fellow central midfielder Steven Gerrard and reiterated his commitment to Liverpool Football Club.
Hamann was delighted to hear that Gerrard plans to stay at Anfield for the foreseeable future and was quick to put the record straight regarding his own situation.

With his current contract due to expire at the end of the season the German midfielder's future at the club has also been the subject of much speculation recently.

Under the Bosman ruling he's free to talk to other club's come January.

But in the wake of the skipper's much welcomed announcement, Hamann has confirmed to Liverpoolfc.tv that he too has no plans to leave the club.

"It's good news about Stevie and obviously a big boost for everyone to hear that such an influential individual as him wants to stay on board for a few more years," says Didi.

"He's the captain of the team and a very important player for the club.

"As for my future, we've talked with the club and I'm very hopeful we can get things sorted sooner rather than later.

"I want to stay here. I've no intention of going anywhere else and therefore haven't spoken to any other club.

"My focus is on Liverpool and hopefully I've also got a few more years left here."

This is very good to hear as Didi is a great central midfielder. He's had one of his best seasons this year imo because he has been solid in most of our games. Great player yet under-rated by most fans.

if its all true its great news. and i agree with you about hamman's contribution to the club, AB. if he wasn't there we would really miss him.

but as far as the article goes, i just can't bring myself to believe anything thats said or reported as being said anymore. i don't believe footballers (as much as i want to) or especially journalists.

We have in my view 3 of the best central midfielders in the world.

Gerrard - Best all-round midfielder in the world
Alonso - Best passer in the world
Hamann - Best Anchor man in the world.

hamann pledging his future to us is a massive bonus, especially considering i was under the impression that he was going to see out his contract and then finish his career back in native germany.

we are exceptionally strong in the centre of midfield. when alonso arrived, i was worried that didi would be pushed into the background somewhat but this hasn't happened, mainly due to gerrard's injury and rafa's insistence on playing 4-5-1 in the majority of away games.

in a way, didi is the unsung hero of the side. very underrated by many. anybody who doubts his effectiveness should just look at the % of games we win when he is in the side compared to when he isn't.

Agreed he's been a fantastic player for many seasons and as loyal a footballer as your likely to meet in this day and age.  Underrated by fans because he's not a flashy in-your-face kind of defencive midfielder like Keane or Vieira but one of the best holding midfielders in the premiership and maybe even in europe (tho not THE best as some1 said).  I'd be really happy if he spent another 2 or maybe even more seasons simply because I happen to really like him, he's 1 of my favourites along with alonso and carragher.

Are you mad? Hamann has been past it for 2 seasons now.
He is too slow for the Premiership.

3/4 quarter of the players in the world are too slow for the premier league. But does that stop some of them from being great players ?

Proof :

1)Sheringham
2)Litmanan
3)Zidane will be slow here too.

If only having pace is enuff, then earnshaw will be the best striker in the world (sori bigmick).

And hamann being past it for 2 season ? You on crack or something  ???

My reply to you is pretty lenient. Wait until AB & stu_the_red get to you

Don't worry The Rock. Anybody who knows how to watch the game would realize Hamann's value to the club. I'm simply surprised there are only a few here bashing Hamann in this thread. I recalled couple months ago in similar threads, many here were saying Hamann is going downhill and should be sold. I guess more people finally realize what Hamann had done. Hamann is very effective especially in breaking up opponents possession. Very accurate tackler. Just simply superb. Glad to see Gerard and Hamann are committed to Liverpool :)

Red_Si you better get peeling the potatoes mate.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

Glad to see hamann's supporters here.

But really, i can understand when guys who still suck their momma's titties doubt hamann's ability. But if grown-ups (and i mean age above 15) do it....makes me sick.

I am have my doubts personally.  I am not into all this holding player lark!  We look much better playing 4-4-2.  Think we both know which 2 will be in the middle.  I would keep Didi only as a squad player.

Hamann is at his best when we use the 4-5-1 formation, he shields the back four and does a solid job at it. He may not play much in these upcomming games [maybe against Chelsea] as Rafa is using attacking players.
