Sell Dudek? Why?

He's a top class goalkeeper.

He is a better keeper than Kirkland at present anyway. Kirkland is an excellent keeper now, but he's not the finished article, in a few years he will be awsome. Besides, with Kirks being so injury prone only a complete fool would sell Dudek.

I cannot understand why so many of you dislike Dudek when he is our best 'keeper, he is a much better all-round player than Kirkland and to be quite honest Kirkland is being raved about for nothing, correct me if i'm wrong but he hasn't even kept a clean sheet for us yet. I feel much safer with Dudek in net's despite a few blunder's but hey, what 'keeper do you know hasn't made a mistake?

Has wrote:I think we should try to keep him on a perament basis and get Dudek of the wage bill, I have always been a fan of Jones.

Is that wise?
He is 36 for gods sake hardly one for the future.
And I wouldnt put him up there with the Tim Howards and Carlo Cudicinis of this world.
As short term fair enough but a long term deal come on? ???

I tend to agree with Has and I mentioned something in a post last week that I would prefer to sell Dudek and keep Kirkland as number one, and get in an old pro such as Paul Jones as back up.

I'm a fan of Dudek, and in 2002 he was the best keeper in England (ok, alongside Cudicini and Friedel) but his game has suffered a lot since then. He's a confidence player and I think that's a bad characterisitic in a keeper.

I rate Kirkland very highly from his Coventry days when he reminded many of Gordon Banks in that he is evocative of the great British goal keepers of old where he is a giant and very very confident.

It would be sad to let Jerzy go but realistically we have to decide on which one we want to have as number one and sell the other.

As for Kirkland and clean sheets, he kept one a few weeks ago against Boro and kept one at Anfield in early 2002 v. Galatassaray (he might have kept more but I cannot remember).

Thats boll##ks i'm affraid.

How can you critisise the manager for not building a strong squad then start calling for him to sell top class players. Not even good squad players, we are talking about one of the best keepers in the country.

at the start of this season i heard muppets saying how we should sell Hamann as we don't need him anymore.

To be honest anyone suggesting we should sell any of our best players are simply insane. We are looking to build a team not destroy one.

Whoever is number one has a player there just as good to come in and the manager knows this. Kirkland is also only a young keeper and needs someone there to take the pressure off should he make a mistake so he can be brought out of the spotlight and concentrate on regaining form and improving ability.

I repeat... selling players of quality isn't the way forward.

What worries me is that Paul Jones said in the Echo today he turned down a permanent move to Pompey to join the Reds on loan.
I just have a bad feeling Houllier is going to keep him a bit longer than a month :(

I agree with stu,Dudek is a fine keeper to have even if its just as back up to kirkland.Manure have discovered recently just how difficult it is to employ two top quality keepers.I bet one of the top clubs would snap him up if we let him go.

Jones is an experienced keeper and as has already been said on here a short term fix. How unlucky can you get , 2 quality keepers injured in one season, added to long list of injuries i'm surprised fans dont make reference to that when they discuss our season so far, a season where despite being without 4/5 ceratinties in the first 11 (Gerard/Kirkland/Hamaan?Owen and Baros  :;):  we are still positioned well for 4th , OK I know its not what we aspired to and thats been covered already on here but we are still in touch and proved recently (chelsea) we have the bottle to battle:p I'll be there later on to see Jones, a great Shot stopper and all round decent keeper, Niemi played out of his skin last season to keep him out so lets give the man a chance hey ....Walk On ...

People alway overlook the injury problem. Squad players like Smicer, Biscan, Traore, Riise, Murphy, Heskey are all good players to have. Squad players aren't of an equal quality to first team players at any club bar Chelsea so it does become a problem when you have to throw them all in at the same time.

If they come in, in 1's and 2's the team doesn't suffer, but when there is 5 or 6 squad players in the starting line up thats where the inconsitency comes from.

rubbish! So Houllier in his wisdom pays 5.5 million for Biscan,3.75 for Smicer,4.6 for Riise,11 million for Heskey because they are squad players not 1st teamers, you have to be Houllier's love-child.You seem to be hood-winked by GH's cries of 1st teamers missing, yet Liverpool has a squad of 22 1st teamers and that doesn't include Ostemebor or Welsh.Don't pretend we only have 11 men, that kind of clap-trap is best left to political spin-doctoring.

The fact is Houllier whinges over injuries, he has spent enough money on cover players who are meant to do a job when the first teamers are out injured but they fail to do so.
When Wenger and Ferguson have a injury crisis their back up players come in and take their chance no problem.

I THINK HE IS A REALLY AVERAGE GK, AND HE IS SUITABLE FOR A TEAM LIKE SOUTHAMPTON!!

I HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING BEAVE, AND I TOTALLY AGREE!!
AT THE MOMENT YOUR BENCH IS WORTH JUST AS MUCH AS YOUR CURRENT FIRST TEAM.....WELL WITH ALL THE INJURIES ANYWAY. ???

BUT YOU MUST ADMIT JONES WOULD BE PERFECT BACK UP FOR ANY PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM.

when you're 4-0 up..
you should never lose 7-1

yeah as I say he is good as a short term back up signing but I would be angry if we signed him on a permanent basis.

Contrary to what I may have commented upon in the opening post in this thread, I don't think that Paul Jones is the type of player who we want in the net if we are going to possibly be playing Champions League football next season. As well as this, I don't think that the defenders we have are good enough for the Champions League either.
