Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I recall Gerrard defending Houllier before he left and now he is backing Moores. Soon as Benitez came he changed his tune. It was also reported that Gerrard had given the board ultimatums on transfers before he backtracked on the Chelsea move. If thats not putting Moores under pressure I dont know what is  :)

If he gets it we'll become spurs mark two.

A stupid arsed rich fan who doesn't know his ****** from his elbow.

He won't give managers full backing and during bad periods will probably sack managers and have fallings out with them. I wouldn't touch him with a barge poll. Moores along with Gibson are the best chairmen in the league by a country mile.

The only problem with David Moores and Rick Parry is that they try to run the club on trust and good faith, which is ok with respect to traditional values and fair play etc. These values worked with Steven Gerrard, he stayed when Moores blew in his ear. But Owen and Macmanaman, took them to the cleaners, we missed out on some near £30/£40m because they couldn't see their duplicitous tactics coming.
I believe that they persisted with Houllier and crew for too long out of friendship etc. They are good solid people, but they are not the sharpest knives in the draw when it comes to hard-nosed business, that's why they don't like Morgan, he is far too cut-throat for them.
If Morgan takes control, I fear we will lose both Moores and Parry, because of the acrimony caused in the Power struggle and because of the different personalities at play. Also, both Moores and Parry will lose status at the club and they may not like 'losing face'
My read on the situation is that Moores and Parry are both fighting against time to find a friendly backer who will inject money for a minor share of the club, without them having to give up either control or position within the club.
The new Stadium is just an added problem that they didn't need just now. Having let Houllier empty the treasure coffers on some unsuitable purchases, for which we will get little return, we now have to endure the prospect of dropping in to debt to with pay-offs for him and his staff and continue to pay wages to the like of Diouf. This leaves no money to meet the spiraling costs of the Stadium and weakens the case for not having a ground share. In the short term we may be better served by staying put in Anfield and setting up a debenture scheme to allow the fan's to purchase seats in perpetuity for Anfield or a new Stadium, which would in turn bridge the income gap until we can afford a larger capacity ground and it's increased revenue.
Whatever happens and whoever controls the finances, we have some tricky decisions coming up in the next few months. No wonder David Moores is showing the strain !!

Gerrard really shouldn't be  getting involved. His job is a player and he shouldn't really be getting involved in business decisons at the club, just get on with his job of playing brilliant football for us.

Morgan is worth around £350 million i believe.

When the unavoidable change of board comes - that's the time to hang on to your seats kids !!

The hidden inaccuracies in accounting, the just plain dishonesty , the feathering your own nests will all come out.

Why do you think its dragging on so long ? The shyte to be revealed by the incoming management - if they aren't got  to -  will keep the Sundays going for weeks!

I don't know much about what your saying JB but I find it inconnceivable that a club grossing vast amounts from gate receipts, sponsorshiop deals and qualification for the CL more often than not over the last 5 years are £22 Million in the red ???

Ok . GH blew a fair bit of that in 2002 on 3 players (Diouf, Daio and Cheyrou) which was the beginning of the end for GH but we have generated far greater amounts than that in the last 10 years.

For the record I have to say I trust Moores, call it blind loyalty if you will but can't honestly believe they would decline a takeover bid of £70 Million out of petty jealousy or the desire to cling onto power .......

As far as the ground share business is concerned a lot of people want to wake up and smell the coffee.
At present the mancs pull in about £1`5 million per home game more than we do. When the revolution starts proper and we are in the CL every year with a good chance of winning it, then we want to be able to seat the crowds that will come.
We need an 80k seater stadium and if it means that the bluenoses are renting their share from us then so what ? The club is not just about the ground where ever it is. LFC is the SPIRIT of the club. It would survive on its own regardless of who owns it or where we play and the reality of the modern game is that we cannot afford to miss the next boat. We've missed far too many over the past 15 years.

100% agree.Liverpool fc will survive no matter what.We have to move the club up to the next level to compete.

I've heard that the Kraft family [NFL New England Patriots owners] will try to buy some of our shares.

Yes !! I hate the patriots, but they are amazingly successful so even if Liverpool  hits the slump Mr Kraft will still have money to inject in the club.  He also already owns a MLS team who is coached by a former Red, come on Kraft !!  :grinning:

From BBC sport :
''Morgan, in contrast, has the wealth and the time to devote to Liverpool and may finally see the winning post in sight.''

Their best guess on the likely outcome of the Power Struggle.
