Than Kevin Phillips even today? Than Shola ameobi? Than Johnathon Johannsson? than Andy Cole even today? than Yakubu? than Emile Heskey or Darren Huckerby? than Kanu or Stern John or Johnathon Macken? Is he really better than any of the above? Or equal to?
Also, the most important question of all, is he anywhere near as good as Robert Earnshaw?
But Mick, what other choice do we have? Yes, I'd even take Earnshaw ahead of Mellor, but at the moment, we don't even have a guy as "good"

Who else can fill the void? Sinema?
I think you are missing my point: of course Mellor isn't as good as those players you mention (although thats not to say he cannot be as "good" some day) and once Garcia and Baros come back, let alone the new guy in January, Mellor will be back on the bench.
However, I do think he can do a job for us, better than, as some suggested, playing Igor Biscan up front!
If Kewell got his ****** in gear then obviously there would have to be a re-think, but to play the way we did yesterday for our next 4 or 5 matches, we need a Mellor type player, not a raw and light weight Sinema nor a misfiring Kewell.
Mellor deserves the credit for the heart and effort he put in, particulalry after the complete lack of spirit we showed against Boro last week.
