Would definitely help us attacking wise but man we need to address the middle otherwise will just end up with computer games scorelines.

Let’s just hope that this £120m investment proves to be an immediate success unlike Wirtz and Izak. I have always maintained that simply throwing money at a problem doesn’t necessarily solve it. Just look at Chelsea and Man United over the last decade.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 21/22 to 25/26  (10 years
are in brackets 16/17 to 25/26 )
LFC €490m (€650m)
Everton +€15m (€290m)
Arsenal €770m (€1107m)
Spurs €665m (€892m)
Chelsea €740m (€1045m)
Man City €460m (€1095m)
Man United €780m (€1340m)

I think our problems probably do run deeper than a DM though, i see we were 19th in the distance run stats again and the only team in the whole fvcking division that ran less distance than us [Villa] were down to 10 men for a lot of their game.
We dont work anywhere near hard enough, nowhere near it, we don't run and we don't tackle and you can't tell me that doesn't contribute to our defensive fragility.

Lack of hard work doesn't just contribute but it's exactly what is the main reason to our defensive fragility. It is why last season I was constantly against opinions that stated that our CBs were the main problem. They were not, you could have prime Maldini in there and he'd still struggle with the lack of defensive work from the rest of the team.

I'm not even sure if just a DM will fix our problems either. It will help for sure but you still need everyone to contribute and that means the forward players too. We replaced fighters and hard workers like Diaz, Nunez and sadly Jota with the like of Wirtz, Isak etc. who although are good players in their own right, they simply don't contribute enough defensively.

Barcola seems like a signing in the same direction as well. Might be somewhat decent going forward but it will be another man less when we'll be defending IMO.

Yeah your right, as you say Diogo wasnt the biggest of players but he was a spiky character, he was a wind up merchant wasnt he, he was often involved in little running battles with players twice his size which were always threatening to boil over, Virgil and Ibou were forever running up the pitch to get involved on his behalf, you could see by the amount of headers he scored that he wasnt afraid to put his head where it hurt. He was a brave little sod.
Darwin would fight prime Mike Tyson he didnt give a f**k Darwin the only thing he couldnt do was finish routine chances, as for Luis he was our best player while he was here. Shame we never bought him when he was 21, he was a terrific player.
This current crop need to roll their sleeves up and start getting stuck in its as simple and basic as that. We need a bit of ale house team attitude.

Looks like Gakpo has agreed to sign for Man City. Reported fee around £85m. Good buisness all around.

Odd move for city, but £85m is outstanding business for a guy who was awful last season

That's a decent price for Gakpo, but why are we selling to a rival, and why do they even want him for that sort of money? Such a strange transfer window.

Also, I was hoping we'd keep him as back-up, without him we basically have only Rio and I guess Chiesa as back up to Barcola and Munoz. He also started the season decently, I wouldn't be surprised if he hits form at City.
