Given that so many top class players are looking extremely poor and have been for most of the season, I have to conclude that Slot and his coaching staff simply aren’t up to the job. We spent very close to £500m gross in the in 25/26, Izak €145m, Wirtz €125m and Ekitike €95m. Except for the very occasional flash of brilliance they look more like €20m players. They certainly haven’t replaced the players that we have lost. Whereas Klop improved players that certainly hasn’t been the case with this coaching team. Tactics, injuries and downright bad luck have all played a part but that only goes some way towards explaining just how dire Liverpool as a championship winning team have looked this season. Last nights penalty decision just about summed things up but in reality we simply haven’t been good enough.
I have always maintained that spending huge sums in the transfer market is not necessarily the answer. Manchester United and Chelsea have certainly proved that point over the last 10 years. Many of us have complained that after winning the Champions League and the previous league title we simply didn’t do enough to strengthen our squad. Long term planning certainly appears to have failed drastically.
