Rumour of the day - For the miserable tw@ts amongst you

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Despite every manager wanting all their signings in before pre-season, it's often quite difficult to do that. Remember there are 3 parties with their own interests involved. The buying club, the selling club, and the player. Take Gravenberch for example, he's clearly someone we like, but Bayern are not not looking to push him out the door and if there is no chance they'll let him go unless they bring in a replacement. And if they actually decide not to bring in a midfielder and tell Gravenberch he'll play a far more prominent role next season, chances are he won't be interested in moving on. Maybe Nice just point blank refused to agree a deal on Thuram until after the Euro U21 because they want to see if he has a great tournament and it flushes out more interest in him and they can get a higher price. Or maybe they want to sort out their deals first without selling clubs pointing to the £40mil that just landing in their account. Then there is the question of how wise it is to sign a player before he plays a whole bunch of games in short period of time for his country. Kone got injured yesterday playing for France U21 and was on crutches. Didn't look great. We'd all be feeling pretty shitty if we'd already signed him and now he's out for a year.

Bottom line is unless a club is actively looking to sell, and the player is actively looking to move on, transfers are quite complicated. And also, no one, not journalists, not random Twitter, actually know what is going on behind the scenes at the club and what Klopp and the recruitment team are thinking. They may get the occasional bits of information from agents, or get fed certain things from clubs that the clubs want out there, but that's it really.

As players start coming back from holiday in time for pre-season, we'll start to see more movement I think.

I have no idea on his track record but find bringing in Jorg Schmadtke on a short term deal a bit odd. I have some friends in Germany and they mentioned he is known as Dummkopf over there which is apparently German for Oaf which was disconcerting but now he is here he needs to be given a chance.

Now being reported by credible journalists like Paul Joyce and David Ornstein that we're trying to push the Szoboszlai deal through. Imagine it's payment terms that need thrashing out. Release clauses generally need to be paid in full in one go but often selling clubs will be flexible and agree to spread it over a few years. Szoboszlai looks like an interesting player who would replace Henderson as the RCM.

Liverpool are pushing ahead with a deal to sign Dominik Szoboszlai. Looked difficult but dynamic has shifted + #NUFC out - now appears #LFC confident it can get done, amid talks with #RBLeipzig over Fabio Carvalho (set to complete today)

Hope we get this Szoboszlai lad, he really does look an elegant and skilful player.

It's all looking quite positive. He's exactly the right sort of profile. 22, 100+ career games under his belt, 2 seasons at the top end of one the stronger leagues in Europe, experience playing European football alongside a league campaign. We're better at making superstars rather than buying them. And nowadays we're in a position to keep them.

I really wish we'd gone for his teammate Nkunku last summer. Sounds like the recruitment team were pushing him as the preferred signing last year but Klopp wanted Nunez. Will be interesting to see how he does under Poch at Chelsea as he looks a real talent.

Looks we've triggered the £60m release clause for Szoboszlai. Im really excited for this one.. he's a proper player this kid, and he chips in with goals and assists consistently aswell.

If we get Thuram aswell this window then it's gonna be a huge success.

Fair dues to the club if they have got this one over the line, can’t wait for pre season to start now.

Good player but where exactly will he play? He's more of a forward (winger) than a midfielder and we're pretty much packed with forwards. Also, I thought we needed more workman like players rather than flair players. We're still missing a solid DM.

Never even heard of the lad before last week  looks like it's a done deal anyway but for that kind of money (60 mil) we could have probably brought in Caicedo who would hit the ground already running.

Not knocking this lad at all and am happy he is at least playing at a decent level ahead of some poorer leagues 2nd division. Also happy he has a shot on him which is something we are lacking from midfield. Hopefully he turns out to be a great signing from the off.

Was reading today we are losing close to 30mil off the wage bill this year so hopefully we can add one or 2 more before we are finished.

I think he played more central two years ago then moved to right wing/mid last year. He runs a lot and is top in the km run per game. I’m a lot more exited about this year’s midfield than last years. He covered more ground, got more assists and created more chances than any midfielder we had last year. Also he seems a good pressing midfielder that will force errors allowing us to quick counter, that is the number one thing we were missing last year from our midfielders. That creates the space for our forwards that they lacked last year. I can’t wait to see  if we buy another midfielder. Talk of the lad from Southampton Romeo Lavia who has been on the books for English clubs so counts as a home grown player, before Southampton he was on the books at City. Lavia is a defensive midfielder.

I think we should be a much better team next year. I am much happier with this setup than spending all we had on Bellingham and so far I like who we have bought.
