The Premiership - General Discussion

SG has started off well at Villa, 3 wins out of 4 so far. I wonder how far he will progress with them.

Early days Redshade. We all of course wish him well, would love to see them win maybe a domestic cup under Stevie G . but wouldn't expect much more. He still serving his "apprenticeship" as a manager in the worlds fiercest league.

Very early days like but you lads are right, he has started impressively, his 3 wins have been against Leicester, Brighton and Palace (A) who are all no pushovers and his only loss was a 2-1 reversal to City. Good going considering they'd lost their last 5 before he arrived.
They are up to 10th now but as dj alludes to hopefully Villa's resurgence suffers a temporary setback this weekend!

Coutingo equaliser for Villa gave SG a point against mannure who lead 2-0. Quite fun watching Villa due to SG.

He speaks really well in post match interviews as well, lot of honesty in there, he’s a bit of a throwback on that score, it’s like listening to a manager from the 60’s and 70’s before they all went on media training courses and learned the politicians art of talking for long periods without actually saying anything.

He did speak well. Calm, confident and positive. I hope he can make it as a top manager as he is a throwback as you say. I want to see him with some pressure on when the press are goading him (as they will at some point), I think it has been easy for him so far as there is no real pressure and generally most want him to do well. Probably only Everton, ManUre and and maybe the jilted lovers (Chelsea fans) will want him to fail but any neutral fan will support him as he stood  for integrity as a player, refreshing in this day and age.

Good win for him today at Goodison, with Big Dunc taking the reigns and him turning up in the opposition dug out there was a lot going on on the periphery of the game but his team handled it well.

Looks like the fans are turning on him.

His team was booed off after their defeat to West Ham. And rumours of a huge falling out with him and some of the key players.
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”

Gerrard sacked from Villa, even when he took the opportunity I felt he should've stuck with Rangers had a crack at UCL and then possibly gone to Europe. Job like Villa in the EPL was too quick for him.

Problem with big players becoming managers is they get a jump start because of their name and miss a lot of the early trials a manager sometimes needs to hone his skills. Obviously not always but probably why big players don’t often make big managers.

Sad to see him sacked. As mentioned above a step too far, too early in his management career.

I just hope there is no sentimentality in offering him the job here post Klopp- he would have to earn it. If I'm honest I don't think he would make it here either.

If they are to survive, both Stevie and Fat Frank need to go down to the Championship, learn the job, get promoted and stay up for 3 seasons before taking a top job. It's a 6 year plan. Klopp, Mourinho, Pep and naturals and the exception, everyone else has to do it the hard way.

Even Klopp, 7 years at Mainz before he got a shot with Dortmund. He got a shot at Dortmund because of his work at Mainz, he got a shot at Liverpool due to his work at Dortmund, every one for 7 years, every team built by Klopp and not inherited. By the time Klopp came to us he had 14 years experience including lower leagues and a promotion chase.

So Villa won 4-0 today, typical how many times this happens. Throw manager under the bus and when he feks off play like champions.
