A striker's job is to score goals and Fowler in his prime was the most natural finisher since Greaves.
So what if Owen's allround game is better his job is to score goals and he will never be as good as Fowler was at scoring.
I remember you saying that Ferninand was world class and a much better player than Campbell but again a defender's job especially a centre half is not to look good on the ball but defend.
Again Campbell is a much better defender than Ferdinand will ever be.
Fowler was a better goalscorer. I AGREE.
Campbell is the better defender. I AGREE.
HOWEVER, Ferdinand and Owen were the better players. Better players win you more games than specialists. I think Henchoz was a better DEFENDER than Ferdinand a few seasons ago, but i'd rather have had Rio.
It all adds up, With speciallist individuals its hard to find a system which gets the best out of them. With better players its easier and you will win more games.
A way of discribing it... Ferdinands better on the ball, he's less likely to give a goal away with a sloppy touch or bad pass, he's more likely to play the right pass into midfield which makes the midfields job easier, Owen is more likely to play the right ball into an area which could set up a chance for himself or someone else.
Great players are better than great speciallists, Ferdinand is a world class player, top class defender and superb alround game. Campbell is top class... a world class defender with a decent/average alround game.
Owen is a world class player and a top class goalscorer, Fowler was top class, a superb alround player and was a world class goalscorer.
Example...
Fowler: Goalscoring 10, alround playing(being generous)
Owen: Goalscoring 9, alround play 10...
Ferdinand: Def 9, play 9
Campbell: def 10, play 7
You get my point?
