Lets think about this, we are talking about a club that so we haer does not have a lot of funds, we desperately need to strengthen our striking options in the short term. I think he would do us a good job on a short term basis until he is banned. I agree with Dav, look at Ferdinand and Merson nobody continues to slag off their clubs because they stood by them.

I doubt Rafa would even consider him to be honest.

Let's put Baros on steroid then...he should be able to run non-stop for 90 mins everyday. and it will be OK if the club stand behind him. Well thought out!

just read this from soccernet.com about Mutu.

Taylor: Mutu being held to ransom

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, has rekindled the row over Chelsea's decision to sack drug-taking striker Adrian Mutu by accusing the club of holding the player's future to ransom.
Mutu will learn the severity of his punishment for failing a drugs test at a disciplinary hearing with the Football Association later today.

The 25-year-old Romanian was axed by the Barclays Premiership side for `gross misconduct' under Chelsea's 'zero-tolerance' policy on the use of drugs, recreational or otherwise, by its players and staff.

Taylor last week criticised Chelsea's decision to terminate the forward's contract, saying it would prejudice any FA hearing.

But the players' union boss has now gone one step further and accused the club of holding his career to ransom until they get some of their £15.8 million back.

Chelsea paid Parma that sum for his services in 2003 and will now hold on to his registration until they can redeem some of the cash.

According to the PFA chief, irrespective of any ban imposed on the player by the FA, Chelsea are determined to stop him from playing football until they can claw back some of their wasted investment.

He added that while Chelsea may have sacked him, they are still holding his registration - which would effectively prevent him from playing anywhere else until the financial matter is settled to their satisfaction.

Taylor said ahead of today's hearing: 'The thing from our point of view is if you are going to sack a player you cannot very well say 'by the way no matter how long you are suspended you are not going to play football again unless we get our money back'.

'That is what in effect the termination letter said. The £15million they paid was to the club in Italy, not to Adrian Mutu.

'Chelsea have not released his registration and in effect are asking FIFA, the FA and the Premier League not to let him go to another club until they recover their loss.

'To have that hanging over his head when he has not even appeared before the FA to learn what his penalty is, is almost a double kick in the teeth.

'If he has a problem, he can get rid of that problem and can continue his career somewhere else.

'In football we need to replicate normal principles of justice. If you go to the courts and admit an offence then it is quite right that the judges should treat you better than being in absolute denial when the facts show you are guilty.'

The FA are expected to hand Mutu a ban between six months - the minimum under the rules - and two years.

our country would be in a bad state if everyone thought like that
Mutu admitted he took drugs
he admitted he had a problem
he seems to want help
i'm not saying we should sign him, i'm just responding to this post about him
all i'm saying if we did, i would not have a problem with him providing he did the business on the pitch (the same as every other player we have)
i just think the mentallity of throw the guy on the scrap heap, is well to be honest is pathetic

Getting him into rehab program is helping him. Let him serve his ban then sign him up is not a problem for me.
Taking advantage of his situation and signing him on a cheap to cover for our "needs"...that is desperation and downright pathetic.

Well I think his ban will start stright after it is announced, which is today.

He is a talented player who needs to sort his lifestyle and attidtude out and he could become a top player.

If I were Benitiez I would not hesitate to talk to him after his ban.
