This summer has got 2001 and 2009 written all over it, finish second and then blow it big time.
The last 2 summers have been total let downs with most of our signings ending up out on loan or on the bench and I just can't shake the feeling that we are heading down that same road again, only this time with Luis going it's going to be even worse.
Brendan is a fvcking brilliant coach who improves players no end and gets teams playing great football but if he does have an Achilles heel it's in the transfer market.
I'm all for selling Suarez but ***** me surely someone at the club must realise that the likes of Lovren, Bertrand, Stewart and Lambert (as much as I like him) aren't going to help us bridge the gap from second to first.

its feckin rodgers mate who needs to be told  :nod  he's the one buying these players and i honestly thought he would have upped his game this window. he has no excuses now with the suarez money to not land a pedigree player.

We haven't sold Suarez yet so we don't have that money, let's wait an see what happens and who we sign when the deal goes through, it's no good getting all worked up over pure speculation

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City will battle it out for former Barcelona keeper and Spain international Victor Valdes after a move to French side Monaco collapsed.

Valdes shocked the Catalan giants midway through the last season when he declared he would be leaving as a free agent in the summer "in search of new motivation" as opposed to "financial reasons".

That didn't stop the club's hierarchy from offering him a new deal, but Valdes was determined to link up with big-spenders and Ligue 1 runners-up Monaco, who were planning on making him their number-one between the sticks.

However the shot-stopper tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in late March, and isn't expected to be available for action until at least October.

The injury has seen Monaco halt negotiations as they turn their attentions to Mexico star Guillermo Ochoa, with vice-president Vladim Vasulyev declaring: "We have negotiated with Valdes, but he's injured, he can't sign for us."

However, Liverpool, Arsenal and City are all keen on the 32-year-old as they look to provide competition for their current first-choices.

WOW !

Don't know the long term implications regarding his injury BUT if it's recoverable he's surely worth a punt ?

Not happy about this  :censored:

Three sportswear giants are bidding to secure a world-record kit deal with Manchester United.

Adidas, Nike and Warrior remain in talks with the club over the right to take over when the existing agreement, with Nike, expires next season.

A figure of £600m over 10 years has been discussed, which would dwarf the reported £31m a season Adidas pays to Real Madrid.

United's existing deal with US firm Nike is worth £24m a year.

United sell more shirts than anyone, don't forget we got a really good deal when warrior took over as look at the state the club was in and no one else was really that interested in giving us a good deal

John Cross of the Daily Mirror seems to think Arsenal are very close to signing Sanchez.

Apparently that was his preference rather than here which is very disappointing. I think he would have done very well at Anfield.

He would have enjoyed his football more as we play similar to the attacking play of Barcelona and Chile rather than the drab counter attacking play of Arsenal. Apparently Wenger went to meet with him in Brazil weeks ago. That and life in London for his Mrs is probably what will do it.

Apparently we have had a £20m bid for Lovren turned down according to James Pearce at the Echo. That is insane money for a CB. Yes he looks good but £20m? I don't know what we are doing offering that kind of money for him. I know selling clubs will play hardball knowing we will bring in big money from the Suarez sale but some of the fee's being bandied about are ridiculous.

I've watched a lot of Sanchez from his days at Udinese and he is better suited to a counter attacking style of play. If he does go to Arsenal, I can see him doing very well and suits there style of play down to the ground

Sanchez to Arsenal seems to be a done deal. Debuchy also in talks with Arsenal from what I've read. Arsenal are bringing in the sort of players we should be targeting. As things stand, Chelsea (3rd) have improved drastically. Arsenal (4th) have improved drastically. ManUtd (7th) have improved significantly. Heck, even City who had/have the best squad and won the league have improved their squad.

We have SPENT 40mill bringing in players WHO WOULD NOT MAKE THE STARTING 11 as things stand. On top of that, we are about to sell our (and the league's) best player. To say that I'm dissapointed with how things are going would be an understatement. As far as I'm concerned, this should have been the window where we go out and spend the money on 2 or 3 top players who are good enough to walk straight into the starting 11(what all the other sides around us are doing; Fabregas, Costa, Shaw, Herrera, Sanchez, etc.) instead of spending 40 fcking mill bringing in B- players to replace C+ players.

I know there's still time to fix things but I find it fascinating that a side that came so close to winning the title would go out in the summer window, spend big money, and end up with a weaker starting 11. That is the bottom line and any talk about the SQUAD being better is nonsense. We didnt come close to winning the title because we had a good squad. We almost won it because our starting 11 -led by Suarez- were fantastic. Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham all had better squads than we did and that didnt get them anywhere.

Yeah the Lovren bid is in tomorrow's echo, I can't believe it tbh, we are going to blow over a quarter of the money we are getting for Luis on a defender that's not as good as the ones already at the club.
This summer is turning into a complete joke, the last two were bad enough but this one takes the biscuit, we are going to end up giving Southampton £50m for a 32 year old back up forward, an average defender and a midfielder that was left out of the England team for Danny Welbeck.
No wonder we have underachieved for 24 years with decision making like this.
